I posted a thread, looking for an F40.Of course I know there is an F40 area, but the odds of me getting a good lead are much better here than there. Many more enthusiasts and owners viewing this area. Please explain, because I can find 20 threads on 2 pages here that could should go somewhere else, but did that thread really NEED to be moved??Whoever did it,just remove it please, because its worthless to me where it is.Thanks for your help.

Thats being ridiculous.Absolutely.I have helped 3 guys on this site find a car they were looking for because of a post they made.No problem.I will look for assistance elsewhere.Very petty. The thread was causing no harm, and I was getting some help.It could not have been a problem to anyone.I personally have never gone to the forum that my thread was moved to,and I posted where I thought I would receive the greatest assistance.

The thread moving does seem a bit excessive. In theory I suppose discussions regarding any particular car should be carried on in the appropriate subdivided forum but it would, in my estimation, leave General Ferrari Discussion a bit dull. Hopefully the responsible moderaters will relax a bit and/or find girlfriends to take up a bit more of their time.

Creeping bureacracy is what we are witnessing. I respect the actions of the owners/moderators of this forum, but they sure have made it far less attractive a place for the users. The sheer breadth of the topics was a real draw, but now everything has to be pigeonholed and classified and categorized. Little faceless men exerting their power over the masses. A pity in my opinion. Sorry Rob, but that's the way I see it.

FWIW The first instruction instruction I recieved as moderator was:

    "The less the better."

My hair is now a bit blonder from the Texas sun, I'm a much more relaxed dude and I now have a good supply of fly threads from Saks but here is a pic or my ugly mug from a couple months ago. PM me and I will give you my number, I love to meet FCers.

You can call it bureaucracy, but that is a slightly negative term. The pure growth in popularity of the site has necessitated some additional controls. If everyone was well behaved like yourself, then we wouldn't need rules and moderating. The overwhelming response by the majority is that there has been a vast improvement in the quality of the board, especially considering the massive growth, as we've implemented more moderators, rules, and subscriptions. I still believe "less is more", but there is a line. You might be one of the 10% that doesn't like the changes, but at this point I'm targeting that 90%.

See above. This is your opinion.

Again, with the growth of the site, people (especially infrequent) users were having problems with the pure number of threads in the General discussion. We've been experimenting with getting some of the small community feel back with niche forums, including the model specific forums. Those are mainly the only threads we're moving and we do leave a link, so I don't see a big issue.

However, we might consider less moderation on moving model specific threads, so that those that want the small forum feel can still have it, but then those like you could also be happy.

    This is nothing.

I'm on a site with well over 1000 hair-splitting subcategories. Until Moderators move whatever > wherever, the misplaced thread's starter becomes fair, but friendly game from all users. Unless s/he does it again... in which case, some lose patience with ne'er-do-wells. Don't want Moderators to waste time being anybody's maid.

i must have missed the poll you took to measure the response to the increased moderation. better increase the "don't like the increased bureaucracy" to 11%. all good things come to an end. don't shoot the messenger if you don't like the message.

    I agree with the complainant.

I mean, find something ELSE to do with your time than fuss over whether or not a thread BELONGS in one place or another!

Does it HURT you if you see a thread that YOU deem should be elsewhere? Does it bother you so much? I mean come on!

I like guys who say "This has been discussed over and over. Search the forums." Why don't these people, instead, say to themselves: "I know that this subject has been discussed over and over, so I will choose to NOT participate." Just let people talk to each other as they wish. If I wish to re-kindle an old argument, and if others wish to participate, then by God let me be.

I have an idea for the hairsplitters: just go on to the next thread, turn off your computer, or do anything else to relieve you of the great INJUSTICE that was done to you by someone who posted a message in the improper place! If you can be disturbed by a few words that you see on a computer screen about Ferraris, then surely you need to re-think your philosophy on what is and is not worth becoming disturbed about.

A few stats and Sunday is our slowest day...

Vintage - 7 threads active today.
Classic - 8 threads active today.
Modern - 20 threads active today.
Super - 6 threads active today.

Ferrari Discussion - 31 threads active today.

Combined there would be 72 active threads on our slowest day of the week. For most everyone with the default settings you would have multiple pages to view just for today.

Sorry, the days of 10-20 new threads a day to scan are over, the niche forums help retain some of that small community feel. The debate should be to force the moderation of threads into the proper forums or have a "free for all" forum here in Ferrari Discussion.

Hey, at least this thread is still open. On the forums I frequent, this would have been closed by the 2nd post. Keep up the good work!

I mod at a WRX board, and when I move a thread I have the option of leaving a link to the new location in the original thread. That means the actual thread (the posts) move to the new forum, but the link remains where the thread started. The link expires after a certain interval, so people (including the thread starter) have time to get used to it, and also to get the message that the thread is better placed in another forum. This way, most everyone's happy.

Can that perhaps be implemented here ? Just a suggestion, sometimes the coding of the board limits what can be done, but it would be a nice idea.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'd still like to see most threads originating in General Discussion, and if they take a very specific path, then move them . Most of the threads I've enjoyed posting in have developed at right angles from where they began. Healthy discussion that follows the meandering stream of free thought is really the point here. I know..... start my own forum if I want my own rules yada yada yada

Isn't this what happens already ... and I really cannot see the problem?

I found the F40 thread that we are talking about in the General Discussion as a link. Infact it is still there!!!!!!!!, thus it now is in 2 places and we are complaining ... twice the exposure. Man some people will complain about anything ... ;)

    Pete
ps: People who own F40's are probably more likely to answer in the Supercar forum, why would they waste their expensive time in the General Discussion area ... General Discussion has almost become the Non-owners play pen ;) :D

Precisely. I left the link in the "Not Model Specific" forum and moved the thread to a place where F40 owners and enthusiasts would be sure to see it as well. Apparently, we can't please everyone all of the time.

My other suggestion still stands. Why don't you also post a "WANTED" ad in the FerrariAds section? I've done the same and it's drawn quite a response, supplying a number of leads.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know, didn't really check first. If there's already a link, then methinks 6.0se doth protest too much...

Considering the growth, even though I am considerably new here, I think Rob is doing a great job. In any community, rules and regulations are needed in order to make sure such community as peaceful and safe as possible. In this case I think there is nothing wrong with moving the thread to a place where it belongs and will actually be better exposed to the right group of people.

The specific forum in F-Chat is giving me an easier time to find what I want to know. I am voting for you Rob. Keep up the good work.

A.J. you just have to learn to beat the system. :)

"I'm looking for an F40 and/or racing info about JPM ?"

It sends the "organization guys" into one of those endless computer-loops and they end up leaving your thread be (on the BIG stage). :)

Pete,as usual you are way off base.I spend alot of time on this site, and I know where I can find the most help.Im looking for the car buddy, not you.And the way I choose to find a car is not from someone who may own one,but from enthusiasts and owners of F cars. They tend to view alot of info and you would be amazed at what help an enthusiast or owner of a 328,tr or whatever can be.And if a thread shows as "moved",it is not viewed anymore.Thats a fact. The point here is simple.I can find threads that belong somewhere else, all day long.If it isnt a BLATANT attempt at some disruption, whats the problem?I would like a moderator to tell me why my thread was not appropriate here, but the many threads that should also be moved, are left.I know the answer, but I would like to hear it from the moderators.
