Why was the "GTC on the Boat" Thread Closed?

Not that I care that much either.. but +1...I don't think Vik has much pull in this community...

 

This can only go downhill, somone might get banned, or pissy with a mod. I think we should let him post the pictures when he is ready. If it was a lie, everyone lies. Give the kid a break.

 

Maybe some one should be banned if they post their fantasies as truth here, broadly, a form of trolling.

 

You may not care less...but when a thread starter asks for the thread to be closed...we comply. Now if someone wants to send me a PM with a complaint about a member...do it. I will investigate the complaint.

 

Well....I don't like that the mods here apparently seem to sanction, by their inaction, the misrepresentation and lying that goes on when people like Vik and others are found out to be like this. Age is irrelevant......people who deliberately mislead the community should be banned temporarily, and upon apologizing, re-instated.

For a second offence......kicked out for good.

This guy, among others, is as much of an issue as Gentry was.

AJ and other mods......thoughts ?

 

Agree. We gave him a break the first time this happened with the SL thing. I say give him 6 months to grow up before letting him back. I have nothing against him but obviously he didn't care to change after the last thing and in any other forum he would be shown the door.

 

I know I don't like people like Vik taking part in our community, it just ruins it. The mods need to toughen up a bit IMO on this issue..

I bet he's a great little kid- but he's just that, a little kid. Once he gets his head on straight, he'll be a great addition to the website as he clearly has the same passion and enthusiasm as the rest of us.. Maybe revoke his posting privileges (but still allow him to view the posts) for a few months?

In the least, considering he stays, he should at least explain his GTC (or lack thereof) situation.

 

I say just ban him outright..no explainations..this Vik character has dragged on issues with the FChat community for sometime. For the benefit of the majority..I say send him a farewell...

 

Yeah true, doesn't really matter if he gets pictures to surface or not. There will just be some exact scenario happening in the near future anyways..

 

Ok...I don't read all the threads in my sections. So someone needs to simply tell me what is going on. This is the first I have seen of this thread...and only because a member emailed me about a problem on the wax the plane thread. I will investigate the charges..and if in fact there was dishonesty, appropriate action will be taken. Again..there isn't a problem until someone brings it to the surface, and the mods count on the membership to help with that area. Someone has sent me a PM about this...so I will look into it quickly.

I think Vic is a fabulous contributor to the site. First, he gives us real insight into the meaning of owning these cars. He brings a depth of experience to car ownership that few of us have -the nuances of driving these cars at speed, their real strengths and weaknesses. You just can't get this vicariously- you have to live it. Second, he brings a level of humility and generosity to the proceedings- you would never know that he came from wealth or means- he is, to most, just an average guy, with a kind word, and thoughtful gesture, to all he encounters. Third, his mastery of the english language is really remarkable for someone so youthful. He is really a model for others. And, finally, when the chips are down, you know you can count on every word he utters- he is not prone to hyperbole, or to self-aggrandizing. He just tells it straight, for the record. Unlike many of the poseurs here, who seem to depend on material possessions to define who they are in life.
I am sure as Vic grows older, he will only become even more so.

 

I do not know why you want him gone permanently. He is a kid, kids will be kids. Hell, I am 16 and I know I have posed at least once. If he isn't then good for him, if he is I understand. We, as kids, mostly want all the attention on us. Sure it might of been wrong, but I know I do not always think things through 100% before doing it.

Do as you wish, but I'm giving you a little insight from my point of view.

 

what does usage by both eminem and 50 pennies reflect in resale value ?

i'm sure the local MI residents appreciate the flagrant show of wealth as the foreclsoure rates zoom up in bloomfield hills.

let him post pics. entirely possible that his dad purchased the car given the area that he is from. never under estimate the profit margin from party stores and the like......

I'm fairly young too, only 22. I've been on this site for a couple of years and have never posed. If you're not content on being who you are, then that's a problem you need to work out with yourself. We don't care if you're driving around in a $1000 Kia or have multiple Ferraris, just be who you are and people will respect it. If they don't..then f em.

 

I'm not beating up on you AJ........just suggesting that all the mods have always had access to a specific thread in the subscribed section that they undoubtably read.......and that they should perhaps be proactive when need be, as a result of what is read in that thread.

 

I don't read that thread. I am just a PM away. I try to Mod the Other cars and Lambo sections very aggressively, but I just don't read 'em all. Need some help if there are obvious concerns. 13 pages of a thread and it wasn't a problem till I closed it. lol. I didn't receive a single PM or message about this thread till today...and now I have 6...after I closed it. I am on the case.

 

I was thinking about Vic and it occurred to me that we pay a lot of attention to young people who pose and lie on this board. Perhaps they do it because they lack attention at home and hope to get it here and they feel even negative attention is better than indifference. It's very sad but I doubt that we'll ever see the end of the posers and liars as their need for attention of any kind isn't one that will go away soon.

However, I know we also have a lot of young guys that are a pleasure to have posting here or join in the regional meets and maybe they don't get the attention they deserve. So I wanted to take a moment and thank them for just being themselves, for having their enthusiasm and let them know that is good enough.
