It infuriates me endlessly, when journo's get to brainwash the public with their impressions of one car that they drive on one day (more often than not). When you have driven many different examples of one model on several occasions, ONLY THEN can you comment on what they're truly like, anything else is just opinion, but gets broadcast as fact.

Here's another example of a journo making an idiot of himself....

apart from hitting the wall what was wrong with what he said ?

you can only comment on the car you've been given which is why Lambos from the early days had such glowing reviews, the factory use to try and make it look like they were all the same to the journos when they told them to pick one out of the lineup for a test.

The trick was that Lambo knew the photographer would pick the prettiest one and THAT was the one that had a special motor installed that had far more power than the production cars and was basically a racing special.

Bob Wallace came clean with all this in his book .

The Muira was a dog. It just looked beautiful and blew the minds of journalists who'd grown up on MG's and Corvettes. The SV was half sorted, then they gave up and started again with the 'tach.

Don't agree? Name an endurance race ever won by a Muira.

harsh comments on a true super car

is it a criteria that a car has to win an endurance race to be credible?

Well, its a good criteria for a sports car I would have said. In 1965 people could (and did) take a stock 275GTB and win their class at Le Mans, Sebring, etc. This indicates that the car was thoroughly developed and could sustain the use that a high performance car is supposed to offer.

But if you just wanted to cruise up and down La Croissette at 20kmh, a Muira was a gobsmacking car. As long as you found a parking spot before it boiled...

It was fawned over by every journalist who wrote about it (which is the point of this thread I think) who where suckered by the company, ignored the car's catalogue of faults and gave it a reputation that survives to this day. But where is the substance for calling it a supercar? Exotic yes, super no.

But I'll take a Jota in sky blue thankyou, with the sills painted silver!

but one of Ferruccio's edicts to Wallace and Dallara was that they weren't to go racing, which really infuriated Dallara ..... they did make some "specials" on the weekend when Ferry wasn't around

I have a problem with journalists, too many of whom heap praise on cars they'll never own, based on carefully orchestrated junkets and road tests.

I also can't spell in Spanish...its something to do with a famous bull isn't it?

I tried one for a day years ago in Europe, they run hot, cabin temperature very high - lots of heat soak through the firewall. Steering goes vague very quickly as the nose lifts, performance is not all that special, brakes were scary, seats uncomfortable, etc, etc. Yet I've never read a road test that said a bad word.

The SV had completely different suspension geometry and the gearbox was no longer in the sump, this is probably the one to own. And they ARE beautiful.

Your list of comparable cars is worth thinking about. The Veyron is a flash VW, no one will remember it in 10 years. (lusted after an EB110 lately?) BMW's are great cars, but daily drivers. AM's today are flash Fords, but at least they have a racing history.

I have come and gone from Ferraris, but I worked out that competition is important to the soul of the machine. Every Ferrari has a depth of heritage, engineering and ability that comes from 50 years of being passionate about winning races, not just how it looks parked in front of the casino.

Most of his driving comments on page two basically...

Roll, dive and squat are not much different than any other Ferrari produced for the last 10 years basically...

.... and the fact he crashed it while doing a simple photo stunt clearly indicates his driving is not up to much, therefore his commentary is based on what exactly?
