In the old days, you had to be careful during break in.

But I have had several wrenches tell me, particularly on motorcycles, they prefer a hot and fast break in. They run it right to the red line out of the box. They believe this sets the rings faster and ends up with a higher power curve.

    YMMV.

Yup. Back in my motorcycle days, at least on Ducati crotch rockets, I was told to wind it up to 7500-8500 through the gears, downshift back through the gears to a rolling stop, rinse & repeat a handful of times, change the oil & its good to go.

I can only imagine what goes on in the four walls of a keyboard wizard like you! So by all means, keep the doors locked.

I just hope Santa brings you a lifetime supply of Depends so that each time you soil yourself after one of my posts you won't have change your clothes.

You know, that way you can just keep banging away on the keyboard, padding that post count of yours! ;)

It's a little creepy, isn't it. Darth has been trolling for my posts for some time now.

Despite Darth's attempt to explain it otherwise, this stems from a business disagreement with one of Darth's good friends where ultimately my company obtained a judgment for money against the gentleman. I have not attempted to collect on the judgment and thought, "The best revenge is to live well."

Furthermore, like a failed marriage, we can both share some blame on why this business venture did not work out the way we both hoped. I kind of like the gentleman, and I hope he does well with his new business venture.

So I've let it go, and I have not attempted to collect on the judgment (although that may now change). Also, I have made a point not to bring the business dispute up here on Ferrari Chat, or name his name. What would be the point?

But Darth is confused. He thinks Ferrari Chat is the real world! He has 41K posts! He deludes himself into believing he is accomplishing something here by one upping me! Hence, he highjacks posts, and he concerns himself with what cars I buy or sell or what I sell them for or whether I broke them in properly or whether I'm a "true car enthusiast" or if I appear in court, etc. It's creepy.

On the other hand, I don't bring up what Darth does for a living. Hell, I don't know what he does for a living, nor do I care. And I don't concern myself with what he owns or buys or sells, or how he broke in his Ferrari. And I don't follow him around F Chat commenting on his posts.

And up until this post, I've not engaged him too much. But on this occasion, I said "WTF!"

I apologize to everyone here for letting it get out of hand. What I thought would be one or two repartees back and forth took on a life of its own.

Truth be told, I don't like injustice. Whether it's done to a friend I know well or a guy who buys a car that has been unnecessarily beat on by someone who wasn't going to keep it. I don't know why you're mixing apples and battleships. I haven't talked about anything outside the context of what you've said here in this thread. You have.

Seems like you're bipolar though, going from "Poo-poo depends" to this. WTF is the theme indeed.

QUOTE=darth550;140419306]Yeah, this thread is about break-ins so one would hope some who's nothing more than an opportunistic flipper would at least slightly give a sh*t since the car will be in the hands of a real enthusiast soon thereafter.....So yeah, I guess it does matter a little, to me at least. [/QUOTE]

Trying to look at these posts from Darth 550 in an unbiased manner, but all I see is personal attack on Mike 575.

It seems there are many personal opinions on "break in".

Here is post from "intouch1" (I really can't be sure if he is an opportunistis flipper that drives cars "hard" or an enthusiast)

quote: never adhered to break in instructions in any of my porsches and never had the slightest problem.
just be easy on it until engine oil is fully warmed up and then just enjoy.

I did catch MIke575 in a bold face lie on one post of his. He said Darth550 has 41,000 posts, and he really only has 40,769. That is 231 more than the actual posts. Do you know how long it takes to post 239 posts. Get your facts right MIke575!

I have mine, you have yours, he has his.....

    Porsche has theirs....

Break in hints for the first
    2,000 miles/3,000 kilometers
The following tips will be helpful in obtaining
optimum performance from your new Porsche.
Despite the most modern, high-precision manufacturing
methods, the moving parts must still wear
in with each other. This wearing-in occurs mainly in
    the first 2,000 miles/3,000 kilometers.
