I am in the process of establishing an office within an area I plan to develop during the next few years, and I am interested in installing a some sort of far reaching (weatherproof) wireless antenna so I can have LAN/internet access throughout the site and neighboring properties.

I will have either a DSL or Cable Modem connection for now, with a switch for the local network LAN in the office for wired computers, printers, cameras, etc. I have a Linksys wireless router, but I can change it if necessary.

Any advice on setup and/or equipment? The info on FChat never ceases to amaze me.... Thanks!!

    It did this time! :)

To be honest, we use access points etc all around London and in bus depots (weatherproof etc too) for our business.

I'm not the technical guy unfortunately but i shall ask my colleague to provide some information that I'm sure will help you.

    Regards,

    Matthew

Depending on how wide and "high" (in the case of multi-story structures) an area you want to cover,..... you might be able to get away with keeping your original wireless router. You might have to supplement it with either A) an outdoor high gain antenna,.. and/or.. B) the use of signal repeater(s)... Both of these items can be used in unison or seperately to extend the "natural" range of your Linksys wireless router...which luckly, by the way, tend to have fairly decent natural ranges (as opposed to a D-link wireless router, for instance...)

    Good luck

I will measure the distance tomorrow and post. However, this is all just ground level stuff, no high rise.

Thanks for the responses!! I didnt know I could fit a "high gain" external antenna to my linksys router... I plan on installing in on the rooftop (maybe on a pole?).

OK, I need an effective range of around 250FT from where the antenna will be. But, it doesnt need to be a 360 degree radius coverage, more like 100 degree from the source.

Any ideas would be helpful... Thanks!!
