    Hey all,

Is it really important to keep the ground electrode parallel to the center electrode when you open up plug gaps? Seems pretty difficult when you get up to and over .05" . . . that's why I thought I was heading down the wrong path before but I'm amazed at the difference.

I have almost every tool in the book . . .the one that grabs the electrode between a groove leaves a mark in it which I thought might create a hot spot??? thinking too much? . . it seems I can manipulate the wire pretty good with it and then maybe file off the marks? . . . just seems like I'm really having to reshape it a lot to make it parallel . . . at wider gaps it seems like if I get it parallel it won't be completely over the center electrode either . . like the ground electrode isn't long enough for really wide gaps? . . make sense?

    thanks,

    Sean

This is why NGK makes the "-11" series plugs. Here's a typical example:

A BP6ES comes from the factory with a nominal gap of .025", which NGK states opened to .035"
A BP6ES-11 comes from the factory with a nominal gap of .035", which NGK states opened to .045"

Both types allow an expanded gap, while maintaining a parallel gap.

    What he said.

It is not as important with the near wire electrodes of a platinum but with a large diameter center electrode it should be parallel. There have been plier type plug setting tools around for many years to keep it correct but they only work with the large center electrode.

Some of the Iridium plugs can be found in the "-11", wide gap, configuration...
