    Dear Anna,

As you can see, all of us here share the passion for the machines.

I find this is also true of the other wonderful facets of life, as well.

Accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband, at far too early an age.
Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are truly with you, in this difficult time...

As you see from the growth of this thread, we all belong to a very small club, worldwide.
We truly feel and share the loss of any of our community.

    Sincerely,
    Alan

PS Feel free to add any photos of events or family you wish to share, threads here last "forever"....more or less.

I wish to express my sincere thank you to all who sent a message about my amazing husband Ellery Koch. You are all angels.

For many, you did not know him and yet you sent your message, what a wonderful community this is. God bless all of you.

Especially thank you to toggie who posted Ellery's obit online and all the links to previous chats about Ellery so that I and many others could read about Ellery. Bless you Toggie, you are a stranger and you went out of your way to do that. I am truly thankfull. I know that these messages will be treasured by myself and my family for years to come.

Please remember to be kind to your spouses, partners or significant others. Always remember to say I love you and do not take them for granted. My life changed forever in 20 short minutes. One guest asked what Ellery died from or what happened. He passed very quickly, it was his heart.

Once again thank you for sharing your thoughts with me, it has brought tears to my eyes and let me know that people really do care, even strangers. It has meant a great deal to me.

Rest in peace, my good sir.

Thank You, Anna - for graciously keeping our priorities straight in the here, now, and thereafter.

Your heartfelt plea led to a bit of a first here - a thread honoring the life of a Man to be "sticky" - pinned to the top of the site's main forum, in essence and spirit flying a flag at half-mast for over 24 hours.

This was not done to generate response, but out of respect to you and yours, in loving memory of your Man, Ellery Koch.

    I'll say this.......

If he worked with Dave Helms, he was already among those at the highest level of expertise in the Ferrari world. A lot of them (including Dave) post here.

That's a level of technical knowledge and mechanical skill the rest of us can only dream of achieving.....

You can come back here, anytime, and if you have something else to say or need assistance, someone will answer back.

Because of the time zones between us all, about the time I fall asleep, the gang in Australia is joining in, followed by Europe, and then the East Coast of the United States.
So, there's someone "here" pretty much 24/7.......

Stay strong, cherish the memories, take care of yourself and the family.
Love is really hard to find.........and you did.

    Anna,

The honor was all mine to help in this situation in a small way. Even though I am a stranger to you and your family, I am a long-time Ferrari owner which makes me a kindrid spirit with your husband Ellery. All of us here on this internet forum share the passion we have for these special cars. And we all are aware that our time on this Earth is more limited than we'd like to think about. So, when one of us passes on to the next life, we are compelled to take a minute and reflect on that person's life and their contribution to the hobby we share.

We do not own these cars forever, eventually they are passed on to others to take care of them and eventually restore them.
However, we do keep forever, the fun memories we've had driving and enjoying them.

    Take care,
    - Ron (aka "toggie")

I wish I would have seen this thread in a more timely manner.

Yes Tex, I knew Ellery very well and will cherrish the times we worked together. A true pro of the highest level doing this for the love of doing it.

We will always hold dear the time we spent with him, he was a true friend to everyone here. Niki really held a dear, true respect and friendship with Ellery and this was very difficult for her. None of us at the shop will ever forget when we spoke with him shortly after he proposed to Anna...the man had found his true reason for being, his life made sense and everything was good. I will always remember Niki and Kris cheering for joy at the news...but a few special memories we choose to hold dear to us in his memory.

Anna, there are no words to properly express out feelings for your loss.

    Dave, Kris and Niki

    Anna,

We are both sorry for your loss, and had I been aware sooner, this may have been more timely.

Ellery was generous with his time and his enthusiasm for motorsports. His patience for me, with endless questions about cars, was given easily and was appreciated. Ocassionally, Ellery would also share a little bit about his love and enthusiam for you and your relationship, which gave us a little glimpse into his warm and genuine character.

I am sure that your anguish and pain is particularily deep, given that you shared Ellery's life on a daily basis.

Our thoughts are with you. We hope that knowing that your loss is shared in some small way by us will give you some small comfort in the time that comes.

    Warmly,

    Michael and Brenda

I am also sorry to hear about your loss, but after reading this thread, I have to say that I feel honored to be part of this community, so many of you have shown both your feelings and your class, and in the world we live intoday those things seem to have been forgotten.

I feel I should be thanking all of you as well. I only just heard about this thread today from Anna. I had the distinct pleasure of working beside both he and Anna for a period, learning everything I could from him. He quietly touched so many lives, and had such a deep impact on those around him, always giving all of who he was expecting nothing in return. As Dave Helmes commented, the way he lit up when talking about proposing to Anna, and then how brightly he beamed after she said yes, will definitely be a memory kept for all time.

Without realizing (and without wanting to), he became a legend of a man.

Thank you again everyone, your kind words mean so much.

It appears to me that many did not know of his passing until seeing this post. It is unfortunate, as he appears to be "one of the good ones".

I have been reading your beautiful comments and messages. Thank you. This forum has brought the message I hoped it would to the people that new my amazing husband. I had a wonderful talk on the phone with Dave Helms whom Ellery knew very well, worked with and respected. I have heard from clients and customers that knew Ellery, thank you for your kind words. Some customers have called to send condolences, once again thank you. The most incredible thing is the wonderful people that did not know Ellery but you sent encouraging words, and paid your respect to a man that you did not know, you have renewed my faith in people. As I stated before you touched my heart with your kindness and I thank you each and everyone from the bottom of my heart.

It was asked why Ellery was disrespected, I am not sure why this happened, but that's what Ellerys life was like, he was a quiet man, never blew his own horn went, about his work never asking for anything, but got the job done. Sometimes people forgot to say thank you and would forget what he did and how hard he worked for them (that includes his former boss at ZR). He gave his all to his family, friends and to his job.

For many that knew Ellery, you would know that Ellery and I met at the work place a few years ago, fell in love some time later and were married on Valentines day 2009 only 7 months before his death. We had a very short time together, but I was blessed to know this gentlemen with a heart of gold.

Ellery's life was all about speed, racing and cars( repairing, fixing, modifying and making them go faster). He had a wonderful career in racing, was crew chief on Top fuel dragster, machine specialist on alcohol dragsters, was well know on IHRA and NHRA circuit. He raced motorcycles, and street cars during his life. He loved working on the exotic cars (ferraris, lamborghinis, astin martin, etc). He was a perfectionist and ensured that everything was done right. He was the "man" and in my eyes always will be. I have loved talking with you, thank you for the opportunity. Anna Koch
