If and when M.Schumacher decides that he is going to retire after the 2006 season, do you think he will help in recuriting for his replacement driver? Ron Dennis of McLaren has already openly stating that he is going to hang on to Kimi, as Briatore also took a similar stand with Alonso's status not too long ago, I can't imagine anyone more perfect than MS for the job. Any thoughts?

I dont think Alonso has commited himself to anything beyond next season with Renault. You know he is keeping his options open for the possible ride with Scuderia.

I have a feeling that F. Massa will be the next Ferrari driver. BMW is going to buy Sauber very soon and there's rumours that Massa won't be driving for Sauber next season. In my opinion, MS will be at Ferrari next season but I'm not too sure about RB. Rubens almost jumped to BAR this year. (He and Richards had some sort of special relationship for some reason) Now Richards is gone so I don't know.
No matter what happens Massa will be driving for Ferrari or the Ferrari B team, Red Bull. We'll see if I'm right.

If they can't get Kimi or Alonso, Massa can be a good choice. (if he can keep the car on the track)
MS helping Ferrari to find his replacement driver? Imagine MS convincing Ferrari to get his brother Ralf. Ralf is not a bad driver.
But I don't think Schumi wants to see his brother Ralf in the Ferrari books. (another Schumacher name)

Its going to be either Massa, Kimi or Alonso.
    Maybe Liuzzi?
Liuzzi is said to have impressed both Todt and Schumacher when he won the F3000 title.

What about Heidfeld? I know he's been around for a while, but something tells me he has alot of untapped talents they could bring out. Or, Button.

Fisi seems to be a great choice, or perhaps even Trulli.

I highly doubt Luizzi or Massa would be on the short list. Luizzi is a mid-pack driver, while Coulthard has outqualified and finished better than Massa in 4 of 5 GPs so far.

Without Schumacher Ferrari will be hurting unless they get Raikkonen or Alonso. Since that may be difficult to do, the Scuderia may suffer for a few years until one of those drivers are available. Rubens is a good driver, probably equal to Trulli or Fisi, but none of them are equal to KR, FA, or MS. While most people would cry if it happened, Coulthard has proven he still can drive this year, and his development skills are well known, which would be valuable after Schuey retires.

I could see a Trulli/Rubens or Fisi/Rubens team next year if MS retires. Of the two, Fisichella would possibly be more likely, he will never be allowed to win the championship on the same team as the golden-boy Alonso.

Hopefully we do not see Button or Montoya at Ferrari.

    Alonso or Kimi.

I don't see the need to have both at the same time. Should Michael really retire for the 2006 season, Ferrari will at least be able to keep the #1 on the nose.

Do they? Remember Damon Hill racing with #0 when Mansell left for CART? I can't imagine another driver in a car with #1 on it, who didn't earn it (even if the team won the Constructor's Title).

Yes. When Schumi came from Benetton they got #1 on the Ferrari for free.

No, I mean will Ferrari keep the #1 when Schumy leaves? Or do you mean Alonso or Kimi will bring the #1 to Ferrari?

Either Kimi or Alonso would bring the #1. And no if neither joins and Schumi leaves (or stays and doesn't get the title), Ferrari would be assigned a new number. I believe that number to be based on the WC constructor ranking, but I'm not sure.

I want to see Fisico in a Ferrari. It didn't happen in 2000 (Rubens was the chosen one)
Hope it happens before its too late.

Most of all Fisico wants to see Fisico in a Ferrari.

Somehow I think that will never happen: Last year would have been the obvious time for him to testdrive a Ferrari while at Sauber, yet it never happened. I think he is unwelcome at the factory. Heck, they let Massa drive their precious cars for a year and gave test days to a bunch of newbies (Rossi, Giovanardi), but never to Fisico.

Yes and that's why I think Massa is going to be driving. FM and RB are very good friends..
    2 brazilian drivers...
You know Massa's manager is Jean Todt's son. (Nicolas Todt)

As for Fisi...I really don't know what's going on between him and Ferrari. Fisichella tested (only once) for Ferrari back in 1996 and thats it.

Got it. How about numbers 27 and 28? I think we talked about that before not being possible, but it would be nice.

The FIA is incredibly stubborn when it comes to numbers. I remember Ferrari having either asked to get #27 or to have it retired in honor of Gilles. Can't remember exactly anymore. At any rate the FIA wasn't willing to do them this favor.

Of course if it is not 1 and 2, 27 and 28 should be their numbers, but helas.

PS: My favourite Ferrari number is 4. Go figure.

I remember a story that Jean Todt would replace Mike Mosley and that Schumacher would replace Todt as the head of the Ferrari race team and production.

Have not heard anything to the contrary.

Hard to imagine Michael as the head of production. I think Todt is perfect for that job.

I heard Luca's name mentioned as a potential successor to Mad Max. I'm sure he would do a fine job. I'm also sure every team but Ferrari would cry wolf.

Sounds to me like Alonso is setting up for the Ferrari seat. Why else would he only sign a 1-year deal with Renault while they're dominating the field? As far as recruiting for Ferrari, the most powerful recruitment to Ferrari comes from the team itself. The history and prestige are unmatched--hands down. Now, any current driver isn't too likely to go there just because Michael is part of the team. Maybe in the future, but none of his current rivals are going to be wooed by his presence. In fact, it could work against them if he appears to have too strong a position within the team. Drivers could feel the "shadow" effect of Michael and not want to work under it.

Here's a story that keeps re-emerging. I am still not convinced that Rossi would actually enjoy F1. It would be great if it happened, although I doubt if he would make his F1 debut in a Ferrari.
