I know it costs a lot to run vintage cars, but it seems the amount to run current ALMS or F1 cars 10 or 15 years from now will be astronimical. It could also be impossible given the need for parts that may not be available.
An example...I love Can-Am cars from the late 60's/early 70's. But I'm 29 and my generations counterpart would be something like the Audi Le Lans cars. Will these gather dust or will we see them out running one day?

I don't know about the LMPs, but I can see the current GTS cars making it to historic races. Vipers/Vettes/550s. Nothing on those cars are so astronomically expensive that it couldn't be replaced or detuned to a manageable level.

It'll take some time. But I'm sure it will happen.

    Remember, historic today...cutting edge yesterday.

Remember when being a 'millionaire' was a big deal? (probably not at your age) It's all relative. Whatever the cost, someone will have the $$$$ to put one on the track, and someone else will be there to race with him/her. It's inevitable. ;)

There will always be enthusiasts with the desire and financial means to maintain these cars. I just think that, since running them is becoming increasingly involved financially, logistically and technically, we'll only see them at certain higher-end vintage events, ala Goodwood.

    Good question.

My guess is 'yes', but in a terribly detuned way, and not driven at or anywhere near the limit. You know some billionaire somewhere will want an expensive toy nobody else can have.

Getting off-topic, it's a shame we can't invent a series based on the 1968+ non-turbo can-am cars, base them on the big-block chevy motor, it would be pure fun to see a mClaren, Shadow, Frisbee, VDS knock-offs...
