Will ferrari need to make an lectric supercar just to compete with tesla and stay relevant in the future? Because the generation y crown is not as tied to the idea of the ICE as the millenials are.

I'm definitely not looking forward to the day when Ferrari decides that they're going to make a fully electric car.

I'm kinda scared to think about the future of cars at this point if I have to worry about electric-driven cars being superior to combustion-engined cars. No thanks. I'll stick with my 3.5L V8 :D

I think we'll first see a Ferrari SUV, then a full electric. All of this will happen when Montezemolo departs as CEO. The kids of today who'll be buying future Ferrari's won't care if it's electric or not, as long as they have great connectivity to the clouds and internet, etc. and an engine soundtrack they can change at will to suit thier mood. This of course is if said young people actually learn to drive, as those numbers have been going down big time.

I think the 918 Spyder is raising the bar. Ferrari may need to go that route to stay competitive on the performance front. Electric motors simply win the torque war, and ultimately it will be hard to justify a heavy metal lump under the bonnet -- the last frontier in weight reduction.

The other side of the coin is emissions regs in Europe, which has influenced F1 and will influence Ferrari.

Ferrari are relatively okay in respect of European emissions regs as they are lumped in with the rest of the Fiat group for the overall fleet average, and Fiat have some very eco friendly cars in their range.

Will we see more hybrids in the Ferrari range definitely. Full electic only if there is an overwhelming business case for one and I don't see it for at least another generation of Ferraris.

I suspect if they want to keep the roots if the brand they will build more track only cars and less street legal cars.
