Drove one for the first time......only thing that i found strange was that the curvaceous front driv side fender comes up a bit , just enough to kinda interfere with line of sight of the road. Feels like you have a fender in front of your face. Of course, Im used to driving "regular" cars which have more of a view of the road in front of the driver.

Was this a similar experience when you first drove your 308??

    Thanks,
    Joe

My head is touching the headliner when i drive mine so the fender isnt in my line of sight. I like the look of the fender line from the seat.

I felt like I was driving an incredibly wide car at first until I became used to the rise of the front fenders.
After a year of ownership, I love my 308 more than ever and have to really contain myself when driving on public roads as I feel the speed limits do not apply to me anymore.
Parking was my biggest fear the first couple of months, and I would actually plan my drives around where I was going to park, as well as to avoid any major road dips which might bottum out the car.

I always slow down through unknown intersections now!

Trust me...You will get used to it!

Yes I had the same experience and yes you will get use to it.
In fact, (at least with me) the more you drive your 308 the more you'll love your car.

    Joe,
Very funny you mention this. The first 3x8 I drove, I had the exact same thought. Owning one just over 2 years now..... I am use to it by now. Good Luck in your search.

You feel like your sitting low and then to boot you got this red bulge sitting in your line of sight add offset pedals and the gate shifter and it's an odd driving car.

Just sit lower the way your supposed to. Your knees need to be high so the bottom of your back can rest on the back of the seat. The back to to the seat is needed to gound yourself for better feeling while shifting and working the pedals. If you always try to make yourself feel the way you should in a car like a BMW with an upright seating position your gonna be fighting the car. I always look at the angle of the seat and try to make my body fit it. Your gonna be low but just go with it and adjust mirrors accordingly. I'm 5'9 and find that i put the seat all the way back to get out of the car and then move it closer to the pedals once i'm in. It may take a few hundred miles to get comfortable but it will come.

I think seeing the fenders is a very sexy/exotic part of the experience. ITs there to remind you your in a modern 60s race car with very little suspension travel and its also something you never saw in pics when you were researching what it is like in a 328. I also like the Dark tint at the top of the window. Its very conforting. There is nothing but feelings I get behind the wheel of this car. I love all the curves even the ones you see in the side mirror. JJ

If you drive it enough, it gets strange in other cars that you can't see the fenders

In fact the 308/328 has become my benchmark for what a good sports car should feel like.

Absolutely. It's one of the hallmark design features of the car. Someone once wrote that you really feel "tucked in".

I'd agree with the caution above about ground clearance. I still avoid 'borderline' driveway aprons, and try to take anything that's not entirely flat at some kind of angle. This may be less of a problem in the 308 - the 328 seems built a little closer to the road. But both have a very large front overhang compared to more recent cars.

My very first impression the first time I drove one was that the clutch was where the brake pedal is supposed to be. That took only about 5 minutes to get used to, though.

And.....has anyone ever messed up the shifting pattern, you know, where you start 1st gear where 2nd usually is, and 3rd, etc? Also, I take it the stiff clutch can not be "softened", eh?

Yeah, I tried to put it reverse a few times at a stop. Damn. Oh and my boss and another fellow who I let drive it and who shall remain nameless as well. ;)

I LOVE the fenders. I find the view perfect.

Well, whoever he was, that nameless guy must have been embarrassed. ;)

BTW, I think yer shifter has a spring missing or similar. I definitely gotta push down on mine or it won't go into reverse.

I spent a about thirty seconds today saying, "Dang, what is WRONG with this thing? It won't go into reverse!" Till I remembered you said you were supposed to push down.

I am here to say that it happens all of the time because i don't drive the car often enough. The shift pattern is way different than my daily driver with 330 k miles. I got to be carefull in trafic. The 8 pound flywheel doesn't help either.

    regards,
    chris

For me it was the shift pattern, peddles being so close together, and the strangest thing was the rear view mirror being so close to my eyes ( I`m only 5`8" with short legs ). I`ve driven it about 500 miles now and it all seems normal to me now.
