    Gentlemen, I hate to point this out - but;

    Dale Earnhardt Sr. had a closed cockpit. You simply cannot legislate around time and unforeseen circumstance.

    Best of everything to FM.

    I'll second that No.

    It's racing and racing is dangerous, it's been said a thousand times over; even Ross Brawn has said that it's stupid to make "knee-jerk" decisions about safety. With some of the ideas I've read (in the name of safety - perhaps life in a bubble with protection from the outside world is what some wish to achieve) it will an F1 RC Championship with full size F1 cars controlled by their respective drivers in the air conditioned comfort of the hospitality suite sipping on their favorite beverage with robots doing the pit stop.

    There is no way that the drivers would approve the use of a canopy like that in F-1. The risks far outweigh the small addition of safety. Just look at the KERS failure of Kimi's to show how much of a danger this can be. A enclosed space full of smoke and now the driver cannot see where they are going nor have any breathable oxygen. What next Ejection Seats???

    Every high-profile racing incident stimulates a lot of bad ideas. The technology exists.....why not just run the cars by remote control from the safety and comfort of the paddock club?

    At least next year there will be a ban on refueling, something I've been in favor of, not so much from a safety perspective, but for more on-track competition. Races shouldn't be decided in the pits, although that element will be there until tire changes are banned (except for failure).

    That one has already been tried and it made for IMHO one of the worst seasons in modern F-1.

    If Senna's death didn't lead to closed cockpits, this won't.

    They talked with Jan Magnussen about this incident and the safety.

    he said something along the lines of..

    "It's easy to make Formula 1 safer. Just take out all of the speed, but it would make it very anal to sit and watch. Formula 1 is a sport on the other side of 300km/h and you can't do that a completely safe way."

    I don't think either one of those is good for the action. With no refueling, everyone will start with the same amount of fuel (i.e. just enough to finish), so the cars should fall into order and stay there, at least more so than if people run different fuel levels with different strategies.

    I personally think people just need to face the fact that modern F1 will never be the pass-happy type racing it used to be, or other series are. With the cars as fragile as they are, the speeds as high, and the reliance on aero grip being what it is, and having a relatively small grid, you just aren't ever going to have crazy passing battles all over the place.

    That's my point. Let races be determined by driver skill and chassis/engine superiority, not by tire and fuel strategies.

    Perhaps, but was it "one of the worst seasons" because of the ban or for other reasons? And worst in what way? The many years before tire changes were required (as they are now because of the 2 compounds) were some of the best seasons in F1, albeit not necessarily "modern F1."
