To this day the McLaren F1 is still so regarded as perhaps the best supercar of all tiime along with the Enzo. But this car is fairly old now. Will McLaren build a newer supercar that will try to seperate itself as the new unrivaled king again now that the Enzo has scraped for the #1 position? I'd like to see what they could do, better braking is one thing that could definitely be improved upon since that car came out, definitely keep the center driving position. What are your thoughts as to what they could possiby do to make the a newer car that would be even better thna the F1 , if anything at all.

..ever heard of the Mercedes SLR ???

according to current regulations it would be impossible to build a McLaren F1 again

also Gordon Murray wouldn't risk his reputation now

2 years ago about McLaren suggested building competitors to Ferraris, (e.g. a V8 version, a V12 version and a V12 supercar (I guess they succeeded w/ the SLR for the supercar)). i read it in some car magazine, just dont remember which one.

They would not only have to leap over the Enzo which has been relagated to the #2 position, but such a new car would have to surpass the Veyron.

IMO to develop a car that would surpass the veyron would probably be a loss to McLaren/mercedes/or whoever they work with. it would be no more than a "technical exercise" or for bragging rights. also what tires would you use? they would have to safely go over 260mph (to beat the veyron by any substance)

and like it was mentioned above, anything short of an astonishing car that held the crown for a decade like the F1 did would be a mar on a very perfect record they have right now

What would be different than before? :) They sold the F1 at a loss. No profit at all apparently? :)

Why should Mclaren ever build something better if there still isn't a car that can kill the F1? When there is a clear competator (the Enzo is a formidable opponent, but it doesn't clearly beat the F1), then it would make sense. For now, why take the risk?

No, that's a separate project being created by former McLaren employees using carefully worded press releases designed to confuse people into thinking that McLaren is somehow involved when they are not.

    Pfft, Veyron.

Technilogical/engineering marvel. But not a car I would like to own, if I had that kind of money to spend.

Why would their car have to go faster than the Veyron? The F1 project's goal was never to surpass 240. I think the two cars have different purposes. One is a cruiser that has a lot of power to have fun when you want (like an AMG car) and the other is fun to throw around the track (like an F1 car). I would probably take a Dauer 962 over a Veyron if I wanted a car with a high top speed. I wouldn't have to mess around with an extra key or having a locked steering wheel. The Veyron would be a nice car, though, on long road trips imo.

I don't really think the F1 has really being surpassed, whilst the enzo is easier to drive, it is not clearly better. I would say they're the two best supercars ever made. As for the Veyron, the only really impressive thing about it is the top speed, otherwise it's overweight and clearly more of a GT car than a all out sportscar.
With current regulations and customer expectations, it's really hard to make another car like the F1: no airbag, no abs, no power steering, no TC, no ESP.. etc.
What i'd love to see is that McLaren come up with upgrades to the original F1, may be better brakes/tyre, after all each McLaren can be tailored to the owner's needs (with things like entertainment system), i think it shouldn't be too hard to offer tailored performance upgrades.

I don't think I would call an SLR a successor to the F1. They are radically different in so many ways. Where the F1 is really a creation of Gordon Murray's, the SLR is more Mercedes-Benz influenced with Murray as the one to oversee everything.

The best feature of the McLaren is that you can bring you wife and your girlfriend, yet keep them apart so they don't scratch out each other eyes.

Other than that, give me an Enzo or a Veyron.
