I voted yes. -Mercedes has the $$$ to build a fast car, and the know how (with Brawn) -Michael has the skill to win with it, even if it's not the absolute fastest -Michael has the drive and determination to keep plugging away at every detail of the car until it's perfect. Given 3 years of effort, it's likely to eventually bear fruit. It all depends on the car.
This is overly easy. There are (at least) two young drivers in F1 who are faster than Schumi EVER was. And they are both in good cars with solid futures. Time marches on and Schumi has as much of a chance beating them as a 360 has against a 458. The bar has been raised.
Add to that Alonso who already beat MS two years in a row. With MS in a RedBull I wouldn't be so sure, but in the Merc, no way.
There are about a half-dozen drivers capable of winning the WDC, including MS. Over the last few years, it's been which of them had the best car.
+1 [Probably more if in the "right" seat at the right time.] It's *always* (or at least often) been that way - See various "lucky", 1x WDC's for examples..... I guess the question becomes, "given the lack of testing, who can best develop their car into a WDC contender"? I happen to (still!) believe that's Michael. We'll see. Cheers, Ian
I'd say no way in hell. his time has passed. I actually doubt he'll even see out the full 3 years of his deal before retiring again.
If I'm that much younger than you are.... Its not so much his age that works against it. Quite the contrary it's the fact that he is, in effect, in his rookie season. New team, new car, new rules etc. There are so many drivers with a legitimate shot at it that picking any one would rely on luck. If anyone can make it work he can. I just think the odds are too long to say with any certainty that he will.
i voted yes, i really hope that he does. he is statistically is the best F1 driver we have ever seen. it would be nice if he wins another,if he has the right car, he could do it. like said in previous posts he does have skill to win and determination. only time will tell
Not with Nico as a team mate. Senna nixing Warwick as a two at Lotus was genius (but nasty). Shu didn't leave that Machiavellian nugget lying on the ground and made full use of 'selected' equality at Ferrari. Without it, no WDC.
+1. This post has hit the nail on the head, firmly. MS no longer cares if he wins or not, he is just having fun ... you don't win a WDC with this attitude, and neither did MS. Pete
He doesn't currently seem to have the robotic precision he had at his peak, but there's limited testing, and the last time he ran in a season, the cars had traction control. grooved tires, bigger rear wings, etc., etc. But I'd be daft to count out the combination of Shumi-Braun. They took Benneton to the top, they took Ferrari to the top. Could they do the same for the Honda-Braun-Mercedes? I wouldn't bet against it.
Andreas has... with me! I think Michael Schumacher is going to earn himself an 8th World Title and me a case of Becks at some point in the next couple of years. All the best, Andrew.
