I'm curious to hear what you guys think. How much, if any, do you think the price of 355s and 360s will drop when the 420 is released? Will the CS drop more or less than the standard 360?

I would imagine so, its been happening with every Ferrari, once a newer model comes, then there price goes down because the demand isnt as high and they arent "brand new",

Could anybody maybe post a sketch or something if any available of the 420, i have yet to see one.

I think there was skeatch of the 420 posted somwere on this site. I can't use the search function worth a damn so I won't even bother tryiong to find it for you. It may still be a thread in the General section if you scan down far enough.

As yes the 360's will drop like "car keys from a lear jet". 355's are already taking a hit too. Who knows maybe in a few more years I'll be driving around in a 355 (I doubt it though)

40-60 is a big range!!! why not say from 10 -100k!!!!!given that the 308s bottomed out at 40k with a much lower intial price, i would say the 355s are not too far from there bottom...maybe another 10 k drop depending on the economy...but no one knows for sure

I usually refrain from these price guessing games. But, ACE I must respectfully disagree with you on that bottom end guess of yours. 2006 isn't too far away, and 40K on the bottom seems a bit ridiculous to me. In the ballpark of 60k, however, does seem reasonable Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know 360's are still well over a 100, and who knows how soon the "420" will be here. I suppose the timing on its release will determine where the 355's price will be then, as the 355 prices are naturally dwindelling. I imagine the 420 will fetch a premium in its beginnings and we'll see the 360's come down a bit. I feel like it might take some settling in on the 420 to push the 355/360 prices significantly, key word significantly, lower.

Of course, many people like to play the guessing game, and there has been much discussion on it. This is just another opinion...

[edit: I see there's been a bunch of typing since I started my response, but yeah you know what I mean...]

    Skizo,
For a high school student, you really seem to enjoy speculation.

I don't think that 355's are going to drop much more in the coming years. They will continue to drop but at a very slow rate and really be in the $70k-$80k range in the coming years. The 360 will drop a lot. It has a long way to fall but look for 1999 Modenas for $90k in about 12 - 18 months.

Actually, I think they will jump a little, as the new car will be so very hard to get a hold off...just like how 355's jumped a little intially when 360's came out....then tanked.

I think the 355 market will stay a 60-85 range. With higher milage early cars in the low end, and the inverse in the high end.

I agree with Ryan mid nineties for coupes, I see the Spider holding better just b/c of the 1 year longer wait for the 420 Spider to come out.

I don't think this is a sketch for a 420, it is likely for 360. The side panel looks too similar to the current 360

Thanks Ryan... this was the kind of info I was looking for. I was just curious how the price of previous models reacted when the next model came out and if people thought 355s and 360s would react similarly. It'll be a few years out before I graduate and can seriously think about buying...I can always hope the 360 CS prices will drop low enough for me to consider, right :)

Seems like this topic comes up about every month or so. Here's a reprint of my earlier comments:

Looking at Ferrari V8's, the depreciation cycle appears finished once the car reaches 40-45 percent of its original MSRP. That normally occurs about 10 years out from the original sale date. Past performance is no guarantee of future values, however.

As I have said before, if you want to own a Ferrari inexpensively and with a minimum of depreciation, buy the Ferrari of your dreams...but only after it's 10 years old.

'99 Modenas are already in the 90's. Ive seen a lot of 99-01 Modena coupes for sale around $120,000 and below.

    Thomas---Couple of things...

One, I'd be remissed to not commend you on the name change. Thomas Aquinas sounds nice and it is a significant improvement from the former.

Second, I am in the market for a 99 360M and I have yet seen one priced in the 90's. So, if you come across a 99M in that range or a 01M for 120K or below, drop me a note.

    Thanks.

I thought markets moved in anticipation of an event -- not in reaction. If true, we sure have been talking about the 420 enough. Does the market reflect it?

The 360 will surely suffer the most. the 355 has probably stabalised at current prices, while the Stradale will maintain it's value quite well since it's a one-off special and the numbers are quite limited.

I thought your dad was going to give you his 360 when you're 21, or maybe that was someone else.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much the 355 and 360s drop, aswell as the 550. The more they depreciate, the quicker we get one...
