There's been some big money sales for (impeccable) 430 and 599 factory manual cars recently; this just popped up on Collecting Cars (UK version of BAT), so be interesting to see how it fares.

    https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2005-ferrari-612-scaglietti-manual

It's maybe not the most desirable spec (other than gearbox :p), but it looks a good car. I hope it does well.

Early 612 produced around April 2005. The CF shields and wheel centers are definitely not original, but are Ferrari OEM and fitted into factory indentations. Very nice condition.

This is the car that Rardley Motors had in stock for over a year. They started at £139,000, eventually selling for less than £99,000 at the start of this year.

Question is, could a platform like Collecting Cars / BAT deliver a higher price these days than someone like Rardley's who are a respected Ferrari specialist?

Wow, I like the question Robin. Personally buying from a respected dealer is always the route I would take given the protection and extra service you get. However, I may be proven completely wrong!

I would agree that would be the conventional logic, but with some of the crazy prices that these auction websites have been achieving, I don't think you can be surprised with just about any outcome.

I agree. There’s a few things that it annoys me they didn’t clean up a bit more before photographing the car. I mean, the moss in the engine bay isn’t a great look.

Still, I think there’s a great car under there.

I was told the car was being sold for export to Hong Kong. Maybe the owner has decided that storing Ferrari’s in Hing Kong might not be a great idea right now.

There’s been a black one on Auto Trader for quite a while now. The price started out in the 200’s and has gone down over time, now asking $169k. It has 40k miles though.

Sounds like there isn’t the crazy love for manual 612’s as there is for say 430’s and 599’s.

Then the 612 is a less loved car full stop.

It appears it went unsold. Looks like the high bid was 87.5k.

Last I saw it got to £87500. With fees that’s a £93k car, though I note it’s unsold. I think I would have taken that offer, as I believe that’s pretty much what it sold for at Rardleys.

Interesting then that an online auction with zero sellers fees can now make the same or more than an established Ferrari specialist. I’d be worried if I were one of those guys right now.

I saw the Algar car back in the day. My retina was seared.

I got scooped in 5 minutes on the Rosso Rubino manual when it came up for sale in about 2010. The 612 manuals seem to peak in 2013-2014 or so like its other rare manual examples. It seems that the 599 manuals went into the stratosphere but came back down to high but not insane levels. Last time I followed the manual 599 sold for 500k usd but haven’t seen a recent transaction. Of the 200 US manual 430s they are trading around 160-200. Of course the 612 numbers are one tenth and the 599 is less than ten.

Has anyone on the board driven one ? To me the weakness of the 612 is the F1 and only the F1. Does the manual make it a different experience completely?

I converted my 612 from F1 to manual. No doubt it’s a slower car now, but subjectively it feels faster. You’re much busier when hustling along, and definitely feel more connected to the drivetrain. Not only is it evocative to see the milled open gate in the centre console, but I found it quite a privilege to stir the cogs on such a big v12.

On a practical level, manoeuvring at low speed is much more precise now. Stuff like reversing over bumps (like the lip going into my garage) where I would need to build a lot of revs before it would climb the bump, after which I would be moving backwards into the garage a lot faster than I would like. Now I can manually slip the clutch as needed and roll in smoothly.

Downsides... 2nd gear is working the synchros pretty hard (must be a hefty cog) so takes a bit of finesse till it’s warmed up.

Still not decided if I should sell all the unused F1 parts now (I won’t be converting back), or whether I should keep them with the car in case a future owner would want them.

Robin- Not only is it a pretty big gear, but it also has two synchro rings and a dog clutch to stand up to 900 psi F1 shifts.

ZFFAA54A650138586 is very rough. I saw it. Buyer beware. Clutch slips, dash sucks, along with lots of other costly things. Luckily it was local to me and i went to see it before wiring. Seller totally mislead me on condition and wasted my time with the trip.

Very interesting one. On the face of it, it looks like a giveaway price for a manual 612, but with 90k on the clock (kudos to the owner by the way if they're reading) and a private sale, its a hard one to value. What a great drivers car though at that money.

I just looked and it appears as unsold on the website. I would think this 612 was even a bit rarer being a right hand drive with manual transmission.

Yup; Ferrari confirmed (via inquiry from Bonhams) 27 original RHD manual 612's ever made.
