Will this speedometer work on my 1980 GTBi? I hate my 85mph speedo! Joe Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If my experience has been with my 81 308 GTSi is anything to go on: I would look at where your sender is located on the transaxle bottom get a speedometer that is from a FI car that has a 180mph. Top get 180 mph for a carb car. A little history the parts book book for my 81 308 GTSi shows a bottom mount part number 116987. Found out the hard way it is on the top part number 106324 that has been replaced by 124146. BWTM so I bought a 180MPR from a carb car and it did NOT work! So when the first snow is predicted I will remove the sender along with the 180MPH speedometer to Palo Alto to see if they can make them work together. To make lemonade out of lemons at least we are living on the edge in the red zone and at 55mph we are using half the speedometer (180mph at 55 we are in the first third). I feel your pain :-( Stephen
When I bought my 1981 GTSi in 1989 I had Shelton's put in a 180 mph unit before I picked up the car. Looking through my old receipts they list the speedometer as part #114338. I paid $394.98 for it back then.
I spoke to Palo Alto a month or so back and they quoted me approximately $175 to convert an 85 mph speedo to a 180 mph version on another '82 308 I was looking at. I was told that they (print) screen a new face onto the old one and they need the speedo for one month. The gentleman on the phone was quite helpful. Shipping charges would be additional.
