With the 430, 599, 612, and Cali do you think Ferrari will style another high end car a bit more IMO Exotic then the 599? IMO a TR style would be very nice as the 612 and 599 over lap a bit to much IMO. Would be great to see another 12 C mid engine car. Perhaps a bit of boxer and tr style cues?

    * NOTE: Substitute high end with 12 cylinder if Ferrari stops making them due to EPA rules, yes I know that all Ferrari's are High end. And yes I know that the "horse pulls the cart" and finally I know that all you old timers love the front engine cars.

I suspect that you have seen the last of the standard production mid-engined V (or flat) 12s. And as the 458 engine shows, you can get all the HP you want in a V8 if you make it big enough. You will see another Enzo-like mid-engined supercar--just not one in continuous production.

I think there is more pressure from the green movement in Europe to stop with the big engines than there is here. I suspect we will see a renewed interest in forced induction, smaller displacement motors to help with public perception.

I would also disagree vehemently all old timers embrace front engine cars to the exclusion of mid engine. The 250 LM wasn't exactly considered a stepchild and was in fact a great street car when applied to the task. I happened to like the midengined 12 cyl streetcars, many did, many did not. Most of the objections had more to do with styling than configuration and a big part of the styling issue had to do with that big wide flat motor that had to fit between the wheels. Go to a "V" motor and a much free'er hand is allowed with styling.

I agree with the above regarding the European union pushing for greener everything even more than the US. Deisel engines are commonplace out there and almost everyone has a tiny car due to tax/insurance benefits.

Regarding Ferrari's successor to the Enzo, I could see an F40 part 2 type of car. Ferrari could use a 2.4L V8 F1 engine, two turbochargers, lightweight materials etc and really have something impressive going. No doubt they have a difficult challenge ahead with the green police though.

I would personally like to see a V12 in the future. BMW and MB have had it in their stable, why can't we.

What BMW or MB had a mid/rear engine V12?
