Kubica's error was signing as reserve driver with Williams...even bigger, trying out for their losing team in any position. He could have looked at Indy...or F2...or Le Mans...or even Formula E...but in a car that gave him what he needs to show he is still competitive. The only pinnacle that F1 represents is in terms of costs. It is rapidly devolving into a spec series for the politically correct and pretentious.

There is a cap on testing. The two days they are allowed during the season are for new drivers only. As I have already said, Williams cannot be taken seriously unless they bench Stroll.

As others have pointed out, Kubica doesn't have the arm strength to race in Indycar with unassisted steering.

There is no point speculating about Kubica's return to a full racing career; it won't happen.
He has limited movements in one arm, and one hand; he can do a few laps, but would not be able to maintain the effort for a whole race.
I also think he did a whole GP 10 years ago.

Nonsense. He was ready to be signed Williams until the SMP cash arrive.
Robert is a very level headed guy...he would not have expended so much energy on a comeback if he was unfit over a race distance.
After a couple of GPs to scrub off the rust, he would be trouncing either Stroll and Sirotkin - I have zero doubt that.

They cannot though - at least not without triggering legal action or paying back the Stroll's 80m+

Kubica will be on track for FP1 ,so let's see how he goes.

Not expecting anything spectacular with that dog of a car though,a miracle would be easier.

Williams slow at every race says Stroll

    JULY 3, 2018

Lance Stroll says Williams' car problems equate to up to a 30 horse power deficit.

The British team is stuck in arguably its worst ever crisis, with the slowest car in formula one and boss Paddy Lowe admitting there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

"I don't expect a lot of progress at Silverstone," he admitted.

"We are counting on the next package."

Lowe is in charge of the technical side at Williams, but he said it is no simple thing to set up the sort of structure he put together at Mercedes.

"Not everything that worked well there can be moved here. We need time for that," he said.

Even Robert Kubica, the team's experienced test driver, is frustrated, particularly after his running on Friday in Austria.

"I did things that are not normally done and which should not be done by the driver," said the Pole.

"We must understand what is wrong with this car so that we don't just have the same thing next February," he added.

Stroll, Williams' highly funded Canadian race driver, sounds even more frustrated.

"Unfortunately we have no performance, and it's the same story at every race. We are too slow," Stroll said.

"It's like being 25 to 30 horse power down, so you can't do anything," he told La Presse.

I still think they should sign Susie... get the publicity, get the sponsors, and get Toto's money. I bet she'd be no worse then Stroll or Sirotkin.

Well don't forget that the team is losing Martini's money at the end of the year: Martini has made it clear that they have no intention to renew, and it's official. Certainly, it won't help either...

The decline of Williams has nothing to do with lack of publicity or sponsors, but their unability do design good cars lately.
Williams needs more than window dressing to climb back from the rut they are in.
Paddy Lowe, the technical director, was poached from Mercedes (!), but hasn't brought his magic touch with him: the car is a dog.

Let me ask people this question

Has Villenueve EVER said anything good about any team or driver? I mean -- does Williams need to be kicked around anymore than what they are doing now?

Insulting Williams is like insulting dog poop on the sidewalk.

"Its poop! Thank you Captain Obvious -- we know already."

According to an article in GPToday, Claire William is thinking about quitting.
She may hand over the team to another manager, without telling who she has in mind.
I think she was shocked by Jacques Villeneuve's statement that she wasn't fit to run the team.
She is consulting the staff apparently before making a decision.

Monisha and now Claire. F1 is tough on the female gender trying to run a team, especially one with a family.

Monisha declared bankruptcy about a week ago on her new venture.

Judging by the Austrian GP she seemed more concerned about the clothes one of their senior members was wearing on the pitwall rather than the (lack of) performance of her cars/drivers.

No surprise. She has no business running any kind of business. Budget cap in F4 is €100,000. KDC Racing didn't even complete the first full season of racing.
