    John,

That looks like one of those fancy model kits that you can buy in the store... :)

    Regards,

    That looks simple enough.

Honestly, I'd rather rebuild the gearbox than any other assembly of the car; each piece can only work one way.

I HATE bodywork, where you have to fiddle with the same panel, especially with stretched metal, for days on end!

So, did you just go with a set of adjustable spanners for those collar nuts?

Yes. I used the spanners. The nuts were only reasonably tight, fortunately. So, for retightening I was thinking to use the spanner and after that give it a 1/8 turn with a punch and hammer.

Hey John - you're the only guy I know who hammers his nuts!

Good, but for tightening, you don't want to deform the collar any; perhaps better to put the "rap" on the end of the spanner.

I don't recall seeing them now, but was there a locktab (a washer that folds over to prevent the collar from backing off)? If not, it sure wouldn't hurt to add a bit of Loctite. It's not like you're going to be doing this again any time soon ;)

Yes Randy. There are star shaped lock washers. After tightening you find one point of the star that has cleared the nut and bend it over.

I forgot to mention a trick I used during remaoval that was helpful. I heated each nut with propane (not too severly) then sprayed it with a water bottle. Did this a few times per nut and they unscrewed with little resistance.

BTW, good idea about Loctite. Thanks.

I have a question. Where (on which surfaces) does the wear take place on a synchro ring? Thanks.
