Winder recommendation?

Oribta is hands down the best.

I have a Luxupak (www.windersworld.com). Its very nice and they are all on sale (they are a TZ Sponsor). I am happy with mine.

VTC sells Wolf and speaks highly of them. He can probably hook you up too.

A 10 Watch Winder is going to be pricey regardless of brand. You'd be better off with multiple smaller units for the money, but its not the same.

Having my Girard Perregaux Ferrari watch now and a blue Sub on the way, it's time for me to get a winder as well. Some of the reviews on the Orbita winders mentioned that they don't work for Rolexes. How can I find a winder that I know will work with my watches?

Remember a winder will not wind a watch, it will keep one wound, so they need to start off with their Power Reserve full. That is 90% of winder issues.

Agree with others here. I've had them all, go for the Orbita.

 

If you have nice watches then go with the Scatola Del Tempo.

Besides not having to set the time, is there any big advantage to using a winder? I was told if it is not a perpetual calendar don't bother is will tend to wear the internals faster

 

A decent movement will not wear out in your life time. Also, there is a school of thought that says when a watch sits still, the lubricants are still. Apparently, the lubricants will then dry out, separate and congest the movement.

 

Does that apply to manual winding watches too? Should they be kept wound up and not idle?

 

Yes. I wind mine once a week.

 

I have two Rolex's in my Orbita...it works perfect.

Two Orbitas here and my wife's Rolex works perfectly on the Orbitas, which have a wide variety of settings you can use. The one that works on Rolexes is alternating right and left rotation.

Orbita now recommends the swinging pendulum winders. I have large wrists and my bands rub on the outer encasement. They recommended that I do not put my bands in the notches but rather within the module itself. The pendulum seems less complicated, but it does seem to work with my Rolexes. Some of my watches tend to flop to and fro when they wind, slowing the swing. This doesn't seem to be a problem as they are keeping time.

 

I recently purchased 2 Orbita 4 watch winders used locally. I needed a power supply and smaller pads. I called Orbita and the lady said no problem and they would ship the same day.

I asked her how to arrange payment and she said there would be no charge. I explained I had purchased these units incomplete, used and have never been an Orbita customer. She replied that was fine and I had my parts no charge 3 days later!
