Does anyone keep one of those window-buster things they sell commercially? They are usually red with a pointy metal part and a covered razor for seat belts. Seems I heard somewhere they were mandatory in Europe??

Just watched a "Mythbusters" and the thing worked well.

I tried to Google a pic but couldn't find it, looks like a little plastic mallet.

    Yes,

I have them in my cars and gave them out to my employees as well.

It has a seat belt cutter on it also.

If all you want is to break a window an automatic center puch works really well. Kind of hard to cut seatbelts with it though!

I have one in my Z. Has the metal hammer tip and a seat belt cutter on one end. Hopefully it'll be something that will remain "useless".

Costco sells/sold an ultrasonic glass breaker. Thought it would be a cool, 1st on the block kinda thing. Then thought:

    1) batteries would probably be dead (followed by me) when I needed it most.

    2) kids or some moron might find it, and I'd have no windows.

I live across lake ponchartrain from new orleans. The police for the bridge have the life hammers in their cars. some people have these spring loaded things in their glove box in case they go over. I think it would be easier to use as you don't have to swing it.
