Hey Guys Just had my interior redone (new leather, de-sticky plastic) and have run into an issue - the door switches (both window driver side and passenger window passenger side) and the 3 seat position/spider top switches - these 6 switches are backlight all the time... with power off, power on, lights off or lights on... Im not sure where the power is drawn for these switches, but it seems that the light power is now permanent? Any advise on where to start trouble shooting? Any wiring diagrams I can reference? FYI: The radio (which was always powered on earlier) was rewired to make it make work correctly... the previous owner (s) had some crappy wiring behind the radio so maybe switching that around caused this issue? Not sure at the moment, but just looking for possible ideas on where to start tracing the wiring to see where the permanent/lights on only wire should be... Thanks
Interesting. If you look at the wiring diagram for the window system, the power for switch illumination is supplied by the Window ECU. I don't know if you are aware, but the window switches remain active for a certain time period after you turn the ignition key to OFF. I haven't checked my Spider switches recently, but perhaps the window switch lights turn off after a certain time period (several minutes on some cars). If they are remaining on indefinitely, perhaps there is a Window ECU issue. Do you know where your Window ECU is? The Window ECU has a permanent battery power source, so it can't be turned off except by pulling the L/R window fuses in the passenger footwell or by disconnecting the battery. As for the roof/seat switches, according to the wiring diagrams they are illuminated whenever the ignition is on. Power comes from the 10 amp AC system fuse in the passenger footwell. Again, I haven't checked my switches recently to see if this is true. Just let us know if your switches are affected by time delays and the ignition switch and we can take it from there.
Didnt know about the time delay... Thanks! Will check it out tonight and see if it's that! Also - will see if the roof/seat switches act the same/different - I just noticed all of them were on when I switched the ignition off after running the engine for a bit this morning...
Just checked the WSM... I don't know if this is applicable to the Spider, but the book says that the window switches remain active for 2 minutes after the ignition is turned on with the door open. Looking at the diagrams, I see that the Window ECU has a door open input.
On USA/CAN cars, the driver's door switch (only) may control the logic. Do you have a 2.7 or 5.2 car?
