And its a big deal too! I was planning to have the Mondial trailered to my local wrench for a starter replacement. A significant short circuit has taken place in the starter itself and the battery needed to be disconnected to avoid damage.

But both windows are down. I figured it would be no problem since the car comes with hand cranks so I went out today to crank them up. I could not find a crank in either tool kit! So I looked inside the inspection hole and do not see an obvious purchase for a socket.

Perhaps I am missing something or do not know what to look for?

    .

Ouch... that's one expensive crank. It has helical gears at the end.

if this is like the same interface as the sunroof assy. you could use a large flat-head screwdriver as a last resort. maybe a vise-grip on the handle of the driver should give good leverage.

My '88 3.2 did not come with a crank in the tool kit or holes for it in the door panel. Am I missing something?

I ordered one from Tom Vail's All Ferrari Parts for $95.

It is apparently some sort of maniacal contraption sourced from the The Old Apollo Parts Bin ;) After hearing the description I asked if he had ever used one and said no, but he thinks he knows of people who have used them with success.

All in all it is reasonable price to renew my totally wrong idea for almost three years: "OK, I have a passengers side window lift that is dead but has yet to get the notice. But not to worry. I have a CRANK in the tool kit! I believe I came to that misconception from the owners manual. I remember bragging to everyone that the electric operated devices have mechanical back up.

Indeed, my fuel filler cap release does not work so I use the pull lever in the engine compartment. If the engine compartment button does not work it also has a mechanical back up. And it is true that the windows have a mechanical back device but just not in the car. It has been safely stored 30 years or so on Toms parts shelf. Just for me?

The car has been patiently waiting in my lower car port as I accumulate various parts to be installed along with the new starter. The bad starter is only a couple of years old and is a NAPA Bosch unit. NAPA no longer lists it however, but some sort of serious short took place to such an extent it ruined the battery disconnect switch. I ordered one for a Caterpillar bulldozer at reasonable price. However, it was shipped from China by slow boat.

Yesterday I was finally ready to have the car towed to my local wrench and only needed to use my WINDOW CRANK to put the windows up.

PS: My tool kit does have that T-Handle flat head screw driver. Now I am reminded what it is for. Seemed to be a strange thing to find in the tool kit....

Let us know if the hand crank works. I'm still looking for one for the tool kit but I've not found one that is specific for the Mondial QV. There have been several different designs manufactured by Ferrari and they are not interchangeable.

go pm SIDtx, that's my father who owns and houses our mondial qv. we have an 85 and it had both tool kits, only thing missing was first aid in the back "seat" center box.

he has pics of what the 1985 qv toolkits look like. ours are complete, belts and all.
