Window Speed Question

My 1994 348 does the same thing. From what I've seen, they all do.

Now, I'll go out on a limb here, because I'm pretty new to all this, and I could easily be wrong given the length of my Ferrari experience.... but:

Your motors are likely to be OK. In systems where the windows are slow because of weakening motors, you can usually see a big improvement in speed up/down if you grab the window and assist it with your own strength. In my car, applying force to the window with my hand does nothing to the speed, so I'm confident the motors are not weak; they're just operating at the speed they're able to given the voltage they've got coming to them.

Anyway, my own reading suggests that the problem can usually be attributed to low voltage at the window motor.

It seems that the low voltage condition is the result of two major issues:

1. Inadequate grounding and undersized wiring (gauge).
2. Ferrari's choice to use a two-wire system that flips +/- from one wire to the other, instead of a three-wire system that can take advantage of a proper (permanent and local) ground.

My window motors show about 10 volts at the door, so I'm probably a little better off than most (and they're still slow). Hope that helps.

 

Typical - Miltonian has a solution I believe, it requires replacing all the wires. He posted an excellent thread on the matter but I do not recall what the title is.
