Ciao Tutti And before someone says "try the search function" I already did my research thank you My problem (well I have many but enough about me) is that my drivers side window will not go down but it will go up???? I have checked all connections inside door, switches, door jams both sides, relays and tested the motor they all look and work fine, no broken wires. I can hear the relay clicking but nothing, I tried to swap the switches same result Is it possible that I am not getting enough voltage or proper ground on the down switch, is there a way to check? Would getting the window booster help? I talked to Daniel today and he was stumped as well, also asked Jeff but he is indisposed for the next little while So I'm asking the Hood.... I have to complete this to pass the Provincial inspection...
The wiring problem is typically *behind* the black circular AMP connector that is in front of your door. Of course, you can often find some wires broken in the door-side of that AMP connection, too. Twist off the black AMP circle and pull back the black insulation to examine the one half of the problematic wiring. If that doesn't help, then pull off your front wheel and inner fender liner (just takes a phillips screwdriver) to access the back "otherside" of the AMP connector to check the other half of the problematic wiring. You know that your window motor is OK because you can see your window move in one direction, so you've just got a juice problem somewhere (switches, fuses, wiring, connections). It will be cheap to fix, but can be difficult to find.
If your absolutely sure that none of the wires are broken off the AMP connectors in the door jambs, and you've checked everything else you mentioned, then I would have to look at the window ECU connector, perhaps some corrosion or a broken wire there? the accelerator things wont help. I have found broken wires from connectors all over my car... I always look for that 1st. Also, dont forget that there are TWO sides to those amp connectors in the doors!
Man, we're sharing the same brain. I mentioned the same things to Roberto last night. We gotta get him through the Canadian inspection so he can start driving this thing when the permafrost melts.
Doesn't the 348 only use 2 wires that reverse polarity at the motor? So if there was a broken wire, wouldn't both ways not work?
You are correct, there are only two wires for the window motor that is how I know the motor is good I simply connected a 12v power supply to the motor and reversed polarity to make it go up or down.. Onlyest and of course Daniel thank you for the advise, I will tackle it again tomorrow and this time take the door completely apart, keep your fingers crossed Ps Daniel not much permafrost left...my Igloo is almost melted... now I have to find another place to live??????? maybe in an old sod house...
Hi, Roberto. Here's what I usually recommend. If you are operating the power window switch on the door, and the window will only function in one direction, or stops working part way up or down, try this. With the ignition switch on, and the door open, try working the switch with one hand, and moving the wire bundle in the door jamb around with the other hand, at the same time. This way, if the problem is being caused by a loose wire, or by corrosion between the male and female pins in the door jamb connectors, you may be able to get the window to move properly when you hold the bundle in a certain position where the contact is best. When the windows went bad on my 348, I couldn't get the driver's window to operate at all when the door was shut, but it worked fine when the door was part way open. I haven't had any problem with the window since I pulled out all of the pins and ran solid wire through the plastic twist connectors.
Thanks for taking time out to respond hope all is well.. I did try your suggestion already, I did as much research as humanly possible before I asked for help I have tried all suggestions except taking the door apart Round 2 tomorrow
Good news I looked at every possible nook and cranny and orpheus and I found 2 connectors that were not connected one for the key buzzer and the other for the dome light, I also tightened every loose screw, nut and bolt tidied up the engine compartment, made the stereo system sound 10x better by tweaking it and tucked away and arranged all lose wiring... Bad news I found **** for the window problem... I tried everything, tore apart the door looked at every wire played around with all of them and still nothing I was not able to get to the window relay I could see it looked at a the wires they seemed fine but I could not pull out the relay Steve is this the ecu you speak of?
