is anyone aware of a windshield film, clear or otherwise, which would work on the 308/328 and cut down the heat and u/v issues? thanks, steve

Yes, it's called a California Car Cover. Completely opaque, blocks all UV rays, keeps out the heat, light, rain, dust, etc. However, it's not good for driving, must be removed. The other alternative, of course, is keeping the car in the garage and only taking it out at night.

Seriously, be careful with film on the windshield. Most states do not allow any tinting of windshields other than that small band at the top. A film cannot be applied to the exterior of the windshield -- it will be destroyed in no time from road dust, small rocks, wind exposure, windshield wipers, etc. I just can't imagine that anything would work on the windshield to cut down UV light and heat from the sun and still be legal and workable.

There are clear films that are applied to home windows that allegedly cut the UV back to levels that will not fade interior items (rugs/furniture, etc). We recently applied it to a large window at our house here in Mexico City and the difference when sitting with the sun shining in the window is quite remarkable. My wife wanted to install it and I kept telling her there was no way it could work. But it seems to.

I don't see any reason it couldn't be applied to the inside of the windshield the same way it is applied to the house window. Heck, it may not work but it can't hurt the window any and it is clear. You'd have to be very careful installing it so you didn't get bubbles/lines/whatever. But you cannot tell it is on the house window except by the fact that heat of the sun is greatly reduced.

I've been thinking about it since I've been reading here about the relative ineffectiveness of the 308/328 air conditioners.

I saw a demo here in San Diego. Not sure about heat and u/v, but it does claim to prevent all those small rock chips.

FWIW, I just use a DashMat if I have to park the car in the sun.

I think that all states prohibit any sort of window film on the windshield more than a few inches below the upper edge. Therefore I'd guess that if you want to try the clear film on the entire windshield, you would have to apply it yourself since no shop could legally do so.

I checked out their website and that V-Kool film looks pretty interesting. I wonder if it can be applied to windshields. They don't say one way or the other on the website, that I saw. Would be interesting to know. That might be the solution to all of the dashboard deterioration problems with the 308s and other F-cars. I may have to contact them...
