Does anybody know how, who, or where to get rock pecks (not stars or birdseyes) repaired in the LA area? With nearly 60k on my 348, I've got a lot but I'm too cheap to buy a new windshield. Surely there's a way to fill them in or at least reduce their effect.

    hey,
my wife's MB truck got hit by a little rock on the freeway a few weeks ago; we called the glass doctor (http://www.glassdoctor.com). They send you a technician to your place and they do the job in less than 30 minutes; the result was ok, not perfect -you can still see where the rock hit if you look closely- but the damage is far less noticeable and, more importantly, it will not spread further. Not sure how bad your dings are but it may be worth a try...

Bruce, depending on how big it is you can do it yourself. Go to Home Depot and get a repair kit.

In this thread I explain the process. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17359

This thread has a picture of the stuff to buy from Home Depot. It cost about $10. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89590

Or if you want I can meet you next week give you a hand. Or if your insurance company with do it for free there is a company called Ultra Bond that can do it. Me, I'm too cheap so I fix my own. That and I used to fix cracks for extra cash in college.

Thanks, all. Great advice. I'm gonna leave the part about "fixing cracks in college" alone. :)

I know a guy who will come out and work on your windshield - he came highly recommended by DT Mercedes. He sanded my Dino's windshield last summer and also cleaned up a couple of chips in my Porsche. Let me know if you still need the information. Andrew in LA

    Ernie,

I have a small chunk in my glass right in front of my face. It is not running but just enough to see is there any wat to fill it in without resorting to drilling etc. Once aagain it is only in the top layer no further???

    Thanks,

    Rob

Yes, he can take care of it. Pep Boys also makes some kits. Basically, you are just filling up the chip with acrylic and then sanding it down and polishing it out.
