I think at one time my windshield wipers on my '76 308 returned to the rest position when I turned them off but they don't do that anymore.

When I turn off the windshield wipers, they stop at the position they are at at the time I turn them off. I'm having to time it so I turn them off just as they reach the "rest position".

    Is there something wrong here?

Same thing happened to me in the gt4.I'm assuming its the same set up.I checked the wiper stalk wiring connector plug and found one of the terminals was not making contact. This was located under the dash.Fixed the contact and cleaned the plug and away it went.On the same but slightly different topic,A friend of mine had a 76 alfa spider and was having battery drainage problems. After 3 batteries 1 alternator and 2 auto electricians I had a look at it.He also told me that his wipers wouldn't work. When I went to fix the wipers I found that the linkage arm had come off and the wiper motor wold not come to full rest because the arm was obstructing it.The spider wipers as well as headlights could be operated without the ignition on.So the battery drain came from the wiper motor trying to come to rest.Fixed the arm linkage and the battery problem did not return.Sorry for going off topic!

It may be that the relay needs to be replaced. My car (Mondial 3.2) has also has a wiper parking issue, but for a different reason -- it always parks in the same wrong place and I learned how to fix this from feedback in another thread. But the previous owner of my car had attemted to fix it by replacing a relay -- he had been told by somebody that this was the cause (it might be for random parking). I still have the spare relay -- I'm not sure where it goes or if it is the same as an earlier 308. The part number on the box 115979 and markings on the relay are Sipea 0633.

There is a cam and set of points inside the wiper motor. The points have an ignition feed and the motor uses the switched feed from your input to give it a pulse, which the ignition feed then takes over from. Then when the cam comes round again the points are re-opened and the motor stops.

If the ignition feed is lost they will stop as soon as your input is stopped as experienced above.

The ignition feed comes from the relay, but the most common cause of failure is dirty/worn points inside the motor.
