Does this mean USF1 is back too?
There are several reasons for why Windsor has lost all credibility as a journalist: His F1 Racing Magazine articles were an absolute disgrace. Ridiculous cheer leading of the worst kind. Spot on. Every time he did his pitwalk, it was just embarrassing: The F1 folks walked away from him and if he managed to corner a driver it was nothing beyond the usual platitudes of "Good luck to you <insert driver name>!". Nothing of any journalistic substance. No, but since I'm paying for Speed TV I consider myself a customer and I hate it when the seller deliberately lies to me. Don't look at the USF1 debacle as a failed business opportunity: +1 That's true. But they aren't hired as TV reporters whose job it is to tell us what's going on in F1.
I'd welcome him! There are worse announcers/SPEED commentators than windsor. Perhaps a gentleman by the name of Varsha anyone? He makes bonehead comments just about every race...
While I agree that Varsha is mediocre at best,... that shouldn't be used as a reason to support PeeWee. IMHO, Varsha (and Matchett) are not innocent in the USF1 debacle. Both were guilty of blowing smoke up Speed's F1 viewer's arse's at best... (or if viewed in it's harshest light, trying to get new sucker's to invest) Hobbs is the only one of the lot that had the integrity to refuse to play along and keep his mouth shut. My opinion of Matchett, (while I still like him) fell dramatically with the USF1 facility interview. I'd love to know what he told his mates after that shoot!
I hear you, but this isn't really F1's blame, but Speed TV: There are plenty of liars in F1, nothing new. Pinzor Wiesel is just par for the course. But it is somewhat unheard of that a lying man is hired back as a journalist. In traditional journalism those people get banned for life. Remember Dan Rather and buying that anti Bush made up story? Or the Stern selling Hitler's fake diaries? Or Murdoch's team tapping into cell phones? Speed TV is making a colossal mistake hurting their reputation by bringing Windsor back. + a million IMHO Varsha is just a babbling cheerleader I don't take seriously to begin with. Matchett is the one who lost a lot of street cred for that shameful piece. Vice versa Hobbs gained a lot of respect. I'm already cringing while thinking of the reintroduction of Windsor: I bet it is Varsha who will fall first on the sword by saying something incredibly cheezy (should be easy for him): "Oh welcome back old friend, we followed your great adventure, which was not to be due to circumstances outside your control, but we applaud your bravado and iron determination. Now we will enjoy all your great insights by working for us from the paddock. Welcome back my friend!"
Do you think it's worse now than before though?..... It's always had something of an ugly underbelly IMO - There's (arguably) been too much money involved for years, and that will always attract some "questionable" folks. As for Pee Wee, I suspect he got carried away with his own hype and didn't knowingly start "lying" until things got desperate. His trip to South America was probably a last ditch attempt to raise money after lots of promises fell thru (?) Taken another way, it makes it all the more impressive that HRT & Virgin are out there! [Lotus is a little different in my mind.] Cheers, Ian
If you want to put a smile on Viz's gloomy face, tell him Flav is on his way back into F1 to put it back on the straight and narrow...
Maybe the next JT! Seriously, he does seem to have got a little maudlin over the past few months. Hopefully Spa will get him back into his usual perky ways. Cheers, Ian
No worries Ian, Some say Viz is convinced that the clouds are following him, and he is Mac compatible, and that he once punched a horse to the floor. All we know is, he's called The Viz...
Not in general. But I have never seen that journalists can easily switch their roles into F1 dealers, lie to everybody and then return as if nothing ever happened. That's a first. Even by F1's low standards. I'm VERY happy that these guys are still around. I don't care whether Branson just hangs around to sell the team at a profit (will he ever?). As long as they're still in it, I applaud them. All of the backmarkers and it speaks for F1 that we have these backmarkers again: I loved it when there was the pre qualifying session to qualifying because a field of 30 cars simply is more fun than a field of 20 cars. It speaks for the sport and its health that we have more teams again. Even if they'll never make it anywhere near the podium. I highly respect you and your opinions, even if we disagree. But don't let this liar get away with this. There is no need to put lying in quotes. He knew what he did when he did it. And he did it on purpose to fool us all.
Spa is always good for the soul. Just reading Alonso's comments on Silverstone. He likes the improvements. Just wishes they weren't made to a track he liked so much. Will work on improving my PQ. David
Understood. But, he's never really been what I would call a "true" journalist IMO - He's simply been around a *long* time and picked up various (sweet!) gigs along the way - Columns here & there, post race interviewer for a while, pit lane walkabouts etc. He's hardly Woodward & Bernstein..... If they banned all the liars in F1 the pitlane would be awfully empty! Very cool! I was beginning to think I was the only one who cared! Thanks for the first comment, and I have no problem with a healthy disagreement - all part of the reason for being here. I'm just not as certain as you that he wanted to fool us all - Hope springs eternal in all "race teams" (sic) and I think he believed it could still happen long after common sense (and the peanut gallery) saw it was all a sham. Cheers, Ian
At each GP I take pics of ALL teams. And actually to a somewhat even amount, meaning almost as many HRT/Virgin/Lotus pics as e.g. Ferrari/RB/McLaren shots. I see them as a vital part of the sport. PS: This reminds me, that I still need to work through my Canada pics. I'll probably end up doing them long after this season is over... At least I got my article printed and published. Speaking of journalists etc
I actually like the local area shots you do, and the cuisines you sample, F1 car shots yeh, ok but ..
Easy to miss. In Pilota, the monthly magazine for the Ferrari Owners Club in the US. You can only get it as a club member. It is no biggie, but it allows me to endulge in my ultimate job fantasy playing journalist for a day. Well, your wish is my command: Here a couple shots from that trip: Canadian version of a British dish and then some truly British dishes. Classy All but a few ( those at Motor Sport come to mind ) F1Journos tend to hew to Bernie's line. Windsor is more craven than most. D
Hahaha great stuff. Hope you enjoyed em, if you ever get over my way I will get you some fish n chips to die for, with mushy peas.. I hope Isobel has got one of those mugs on her side board..
If it's Friday it must be Peter Windsor. The rest of the weekend is only British coverage of the race here. You guys seem to have lost sight of the fact it's about the race and not all the good or bad people telling you about what is going on. 90 percent of the talk is simply fill. Watching is the real experience that most of the yacking simply clutters up. CH
Except that we will have to watch his mug during the pitwalk. Unfortunately he is not just a disembodied voice that can be muted.
