We're thinking of going this year, instead of Monterey. How does it compare to the Monterey Historics ? Does anyone have lodging recommendations?

Are you looking for the Ritz or Motel 6? Both are available and everything in between. Do you want to stay at a B&B in wine country or in an urban hotel?

Monterey is a zoo and any major event will have difficulty getting traffic in and parking. Be prapared for long lines and lots of idling in your car.

...and this is why I don't go to Monterey for events. I love the drive down the coast, but those roads aren't made to handle any sort of traffic.

Unfortunately, the same can be said for some of the highways through wine country.

The only advice I'd have is to arrive early and stay late!

actually I like the WWC (now renamed) better than the "Historics" (also now renamed).

Why? Well, in recent years its been a lot of the same cars and at Sears (also, also now renamed :) you can see them better while on track. The crowds arent as heavy as at Laguna. Its more of an opportunity to actually enjoy the cars and the racing.

I like the "historics" for the "huge event" atmosphere. Different vibe.

I have not been to the "Historics" since Steven Earl has departed company with the event. I cant speak for how its being run now.
