My Dad is a wine lover. Can someone reccomend a nice bottle of Merlot? He loves it with his steaks, big fan of it. Me, being the usual knucklehead, have no clue on this stuff. Not knowing much on prices, I'd really like to find something under 100. I've got him some Harley stuff for his Ultra, this is just the topping on the cake.

I recently enjoyed a bottle of Francis Coppola Diamond Claret (black label). It's very inexpensive, but very nice. I don't know much about wine, but I very much enjoyed this bottle. I won't sit here and try to tell you about the rich-tasting tannins and the "fruity explosion in my mouth"; it was just very nice.

Oh, and Clos Du Bois is very nice as well. Also very inexpensive.

Thanks NNO, lol....Someone told me there was supposedly a rule of "20." 20 dollars or more and you really couldn't go wrong on Merlots, he said Champ and others are a different story though. I just didn't wanna feel "cheap" if I went to a grocery store and bought a bottle, lol. Although, some folks told me they've bought some of their favorites there....I dunno.

I can get both the Coppola and the Clos Du Bois at the local grocer, but that's just how it is in the south. Was never like that up north. Last time I bought a bottle of Clos Du Bois, it was $20+. The Coppola was on sale for under $20.

Duckhorn Estate Grown 2003 can be had for just under $80 online. Drank a bottle of this the other night at my country club, and it was wonderful :p

I had a few glasses of Adastra Merlot 2003 - Napa, Carneros, CA. Ripe plums, roses, black cherries & darkchocolate complement supple tannins & spicy vanilla oak. Superbly balanced. Excellent, about $35.

I was wrong; the Coppola black label Claret is actually a cab, not a merlot. Just goes to show how much I know about wine I guess.
