I found a bottle of 1961 Italian red wine at my grandparents house last week.... How do I know if it is still good? I don't think it is anything super high quality.

i'd take it to a wine shop and have them verify the cork.

Open it up and try it. If it tastes like vinegar, its trash. If its drinkable, its good.

    1. They haven't had a drink since the 70s/80s?, could care less if I used it as wheel cleaner!
    2. They have a bar in downstairs portion of the house, which is always cool (temp), and I saw the bottle on a wine rack.

if the cork was submerged, then I'd say you have a good chance it's good. If not, then open 'er up, get some towels and start cleaning windows with it.

You've got all the info you need. Open it, check the cork. If the cork is good, let the wine get some air for a while. Taste it, if it's good, drink it. If not, make a nice salad.

There are places that will remove the cork, test the wine and replace the cork. There are many wines that would still be good after 45 years, but the odds are it's not going to get any better, If it's still good I wouldn't wait any longer. Drink up!

1961 was basically a fantastic year for all of the Euro wines. If it was stored properly it could be worth alot of money.
