    Hello All I’m considering a drive to see the Wings over Illawarra Airshow Sunday 6th may and was curious if anyone fancies coming for a spin,you can have a look at the website General admission $50 (park and drive)or gold pass(more secure parking good seats ect $140)anyhoo have a look it looks Ace any feedback appreciated as I’ve never been before(I enquired pity we don’t have a littleFChat club we’d be able to park and display in classic car section for free as no Ferrari’s are registering to appear as yet. Alfa clubs turning up amongst host of other cars so lots to see

    Just got off the blower to the Old Man. I think he’d laugh his head off at any suggestion he’s cool. :D
    He certainly had an interesting and eventful time when he was younger though.

    We’re all long term Aussies. He and his family are from the SA Riverland (Barmera). He came from there to Adelaide in his teens to work and ride bikes.
    Rode and raced around here for a few years, before he and a few mates decided to try their luck in the UK, so they jumped on a ship and went over there. He’s got some great stories about working in various bike shops in London and racing on the weekend.
    They were mainly riding Triumphs and Nortons as far as I’m aware.

    The big prang obviously saw an end to his UK adventure and once he was well enough he came back to Adelaide, met mum and the rest is history.

    He is still well known and respected over there and when I went over in ‘95 with him we were treated very well.
    I still can’t believe some random guy I met in the pub gave me his bike for a whole day so I could ride around the track based purely on the fact that I was with dad. That was something to treasure. It’s an amazing place and anyone who loves bikes must make the effort to go, either during the TT or the Manx. I was actually there during the Manx as it’s more about the bikes from dad’s era.

    Anyway, I’m heading off to Brisbane in May for his 80th. I’ll get him to drag out some old pics and make copies. :)

    First pic from opposite the start line.

    Second one from "on top of the mountain" on the borrowed bike.
    I rode up there as fast as I could (bearing in mind I was on someone elses bike, and I was amazed that as I got higher the fog came in, and I couldn't see ****, despite it being a beautiful day on the coast).

    Imagine riding up there in full race mode, with an average speed over 100mph?!

    Excellent pics Steve,I’m at a loss as to who the guy is on the left (probably someone blatantly obvious) but your absolutely right he looks really familiar,it looks like a trip to remember I’ll get their one day hopefully before some loon bans it .I have nothing but admiration for anyone that rides anything in anger on the IOM their all incredibly brave souls,thanks again for sharing your photos and memories.
