I have the fortune to pass by FVM on my way to work. Tues, silver Murci or Gallardo testing the throttle behind me (and past me) on North Ave. I get to see (hear) them pretty regularly!
Well, I was in Virginia today for work, flew into Dulles International airport, had to drive to a little town called Front Royal, VA. Well, on my return trip this afternoon to the airport, heading north on i think it was Rt 29, saw a Red 360 heading south bound in Virginia.....
saw a blue maserati quattroporte in the area of bucci de peppa (spelling) it turned in best buy parking lot.
not that greatest car but i saw a carrera today......with all the snow it was going only like 10 miles per hour if that.....
I spotted winter today! I think I saw a Ferrari today, not sure it might have been a minivan for all I know!
Awesome shot! I was watching an AMG Kompressor this morning sliding sideways out of its driveway towards the street. Despite the best efforts of three strong men it ended up in a ditch with two feet of snow, spinning its wheels helplessly. Where is the fast forward button to March?
I saw a Bricklin today! I bet 99% haven't seen one before.....Its one of my friends dads.....He also has a Delorean with ~3,000 miles on it too..... Obviously he enjoys the delorean/bricklin look....They look abit alike, but the brick has A 351 Ford in it, Which both said is alot faster. Only thing I didn't like was the rear "5mph" bumpers. He talked alittle about inserting a new engine in the Delorean....A Grand National Supercharged engine fits he told me. The bricklins paint is bright orange and looks perfect, and the interior is out and being changed to a different color. Kinda cool and different, the delorean is cool, Makes me want a Lotus Esprit! No pics, 10*F is not good picture weather http://www.bricklin.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bricklin_automobile
I remember when the Bricklin first came out. You would see one out driving around on occassion. Orange,Red,White,Blue,or Lime Green. Once, about 10 years ago or so. There were about a Dozen of them all together at Busse Woods with the Bricklin Club. (Must have been longer than 10 years ago....if I was at Busse Woods.... ) But,the Bricklins are still easily available. You can find them in Hemmings Motor News all of the time. Or on EBay Motors. Usually selling for around $10K +/-. Deloreans were around $10K all day long. But,are now up into the Mid to High Teens. Better get one for your Collection soon,if you want one. Actually, A really cool collection to start out with,IMO. Would be a Bricklin. A Delorean. A Lotus Espirit. An '80-'82 Corvette. A Porsche 928 (and/or 944Turbo). And a 308, (or any Ferrari, really) All of the '80's "Super or Cool Cars". And all are findable for around $10K +/- right now. (except for the Ferrari) Gotta get the Big Garage,first...
Old girlfriend of mines family had a white Bricklin... Spotted: my poor car, lonely in the garage.... feeling somewhat better with the battery tender I bought her for Christmas!
I am 99% sure I will have a 928 in my garage someday...I've driven 2 and they are just awesome! I haven't gotten the opportunity to drive a 308 yet, and have no clue how one compares to a 928, but the torque and sound from the 928 is just great! And best part is the price. I've been in a 88' Esprit turbo before, and that just ooozed supercar! How difficult the jump over the side piller and hand brake is, is just the beginning. The Delorean is cool, but the Esprit has the performance to back up the design. 944 Turbo is on the list, but as the years pass by, I dislike the styling more and more...
Oh,perhaps I forgot to add a Jaguar XJS Coupe. Those are pretty cool, too. Very low. Maybe with a 12 Cylinder motor. ( I know,I know...those engines are questionable. But,so what.) And,a 450SL. Both also in the $10K +/- range. And,thats my Ideal '80's Car Collection. Lots of really Cool Cars for not a whole lot of Dough.... And,for a considerably higher amount of Money... Then,we need to add a Countach,a 288GTO,and what else..... ,....
Or go old school and get a mid 60's Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 0-60 in 6secs! haha that would be fun, one of the greatest "sleepers" ever
I have driven a 928 back in Europe when they were new and at one point almost bought one (somebody was faster). They are very cool and have lots of power and handling. Numberswise I'm sure it could outdo a 308. But being Porsches they lack the exclusivity and exotic of a Ferrari. Driving a 928 is like driving a fast Benz: It gets you fast from A to B but you don't even notice it. A great car if doing business is the purpose. If you're out there to enjoy the ride, get a 308. PS: We're hijacking the thread here, but looking outside I don't think too many spotter's posts will show up anyway.
I have always loved the 928 Beware of the Esprit. My brother has an old one. VERY high maintainence cars! Electrical glitches EVERYWHERE! Somewhat fast and fun, but if you must, get an Esprit 4S or younger. The 88s are JUNK.
A dark grey Bentley Continental GT keeps showing up on Halsted Street. Maybe it belongs to one of the bar owners? I have not seen it since the snow fell. Too bad as it has 4wd!
Is there anyone in Chicago who hasn't seen the baby blue Conti GT?! To Tifosi: The 928 is alittle more impressive looking then a new Benz....I still rarely see a S4 or newer. I think it will be my next car...Maybe in the summer...Sell my Volvo and start searching. Or keep the Volvo and find an old one and beat the **** out of it till it pops! I saw a snow plow today...Wasn't new or cool looking
Thats why I like the 928. IMO, it's pretty Exotic looking. More so than the "Squished Bug" 911 series. Regardless of performance. I prefer the look of the car more than the performance. You can always HP the Motor, Trans., Brakes, whatever....if you want. The Lotus Espirits? I would just get one great Electrical guy, and have him go over the whole Car once and for all. Then, the worries should subside.
Last week I took the heads from my Maserati out to Apex Automotive Engineering for machine work*, and there right inside the door were the block and heads from a Ferrari 365 V-12 . . . something had broken in one of the cylinders and the inside of the combusion chamber was completely shredded. Pretty scary! But Bill from Apex said it could be repaired. Usually it's not worth the effort, i.e., for most engines it's cheaper and easier to just get a new head, but for something exotic like the 365 it's worth the trouble. I wish I had a camera! It was really amazing. I'm going to take one when I go to pick up my heads, just in case it's still there. Chuck * After a year of living in denial thinking and hoping it was something less severe, I finally figured out that my chronic overheating problem was in fact due to a bad head gasket. I have a friend who used to work on Biturbos at a Maserati dealer back in the day, and with his help I'm replacing them myself. The Maserati engine bay is like a puzzle: to get part X off, you have to remove part Y. But to get part Y off, you have to remove part Z, and to get at part Z you have to remove hoses A, B, and C... A little of this is to be expected, but sheesh: to get at the starter, you must remove the intake manifold. (The starter is nestled in the V of the engine, between the cylinder banks.) No doubt that was someone's idea of efficient use of space.
