Do the winter olympics look like a joke or is it just me?? So far none of the events look like they are being taken seriously by the athletes. With the exception of the skating and the luge (sp). The participants are all hot dogging, showing off and for a lack of a better word in my opinion acting very immaturely. It just seems that in previous years things were taken more seriously. I know if I was representing my Country that that would be the case. Is it just a sign of the times or.................?? Rant over.
The only thing I watch is curling!! Did you guys see hold old the US alternate is on that team he is like 47 IIRC. It is a sport that is more skill then athletic ability, and it really takes the whole team to succeed. Erik
You wouldn't be talking about the girl that blew the gold medal in snowboarding would you?? Her coach said that what "she did is just part of snowboarding, if you don't understand that then you don't understand the sport." I guess I don't understand.
Yeah I agree with you, but I feel it's more the US team that’s looking like they don't care. Other countries don't seem to be as concerned with looking good as we are. It really bothers me when people don't take representing their country seriously. As an athlete I have watched the Olympics and other international competitions my whole life in awe of the great athleticism and accomplishments these people have, but now it's starting to look like they aren't the great athletes I thought and more just show boats. It's really disappointing seeing our country looking like fools on a world stage. Mark
Snowboarding is the only sport where I have seen people hotdogging, and hotdogging is a part of snowboarding. The olympics is not a big deal to the snowboarding community, nor is it needed by the sport; but, the olympics sure as hell needs snowboarding.
I couldn't agree more! Between Bode Miller's goose eggs and that snowboarding chick's showboating, the US team is leaving a lot to be desired!! And worse are the NBC commentators who try to justify the US athelete's behaviors. Guys, call it as you see it! Bode and the girl both plain blew it!!!!
What exactly happened? My girlfriend mentioned something about it, but it kinda went in one ear and out the other. I'm gonna try to find footage of it so I can see what happened.
It was some snowboarding road course kind of thing. Four people going against one another, two of them were out midway and the US girl was in the lead by 3 seconds. On the last straight (two hills to jump), she did a little trick by holding the board on the second to last hill. Landed on her heels and fell. Got back up, but was passed by the only remaning snowboarder. She said that she wasn't doing a trick or anything and just repositioning herself. I don't believe it. Wanted to do a little trick before crossing the line and f'd up. Who was it again in F1 that was waving to the fans on the last lap as if he won, but was then passed and lost?
anyone else getting sick of missing goals because they keeps cutting to commercials. Finlands goal just now was the 5th time Ive seen this already!! And the Olypmic officals are horrible too, any decent body check gets you kicked out of the game
This thread is destined for the P & R area. I can feel it. Here is my take on all of this: Because of our country's size and prominance, as well as the me-first mentality we instill in our children that emphasizes being on television and getting rich, what sadly gets lost is the feeling of pride and nationalism that is so prominent among athletes from other countries. As a result, the Olympics are not viewed as being as much of an honor nor the pinnacle of accomplishment among the spoiled Americans as it is elsewhere. Every Olympics games there's a part of me that sits anxiously awaiting that inevitable moment of embarrassment, where either a favored athlete tanks it or, worse, a bad-sport winner goes too far showboating or gloating. I was disgusted to see the two female downhill skiers wearing jewelry!! One had a string of pearls and the other was wearing a tiara for christ's sake. Way to act professional. And they barely dented the top 10. You used to be able to count on skiers to distance themselves from childish behavior like that because the stakes of their sport are so high. I've heard every interview with or about Lindsey Jacobellis, and if she thinks she can hide behind her denial, she's mistaken. Those same athletes that complain about nobody watching will hopefully feel the heat when they get back. And with all the ridiculous names snowboarding has for all its manouvers, I would love for a new term to enter into the vernacular: To Lindsay, meaning to blow it big-time while attempting to showboat!
I find it hard to watch. With internet access it's tempting to just find out results on my terms rather than having to wait till 8:00 PM or whatever and then have to suffer through the same commercials every night to get a few morsels of coverage. Sorry no TIVO here as I barely watch TV. I've sort of lost interest. Interesting, this article talks about what I just described: http://www.latimes.com/technology/la-sp-olymaese18feb18,1,5275210.story?coll=la-headlines-technology
Columnist today commented about how, if winning just seems like other peoples' expectations and isn't important to him, then why not just go home?
hehehehehehehehe, you said hot dog, hehehehehehehe. BTW i agree with you, but some events ARE taken seriously.
Smug Bob Costas can go. Yes they act like kids, most are. Hour after hour of snow boarding in its first Olympics. Group snow board racing, please !
I'm glad Bode Miller choked. I was was getting sick of listening to him lip off and accuse every athlete of doping. Bode needs to stick to a subject he knows about, like drinking.
As an experienced snowboarder, the chance is more than likely she was auctually trying to fix her position. Going in the air with your legs hanging below you is auctually harder than grabbing the board in mid-air.
Apparently. some Goldlocks at NBC decided Curling should be Papa Bear instead of Baby Bear, because there is way, way, way too much curling...
She admitted to hot dogging a little though. She grabbed, held and turned in the air. Oh well, that gold was her's to lose.
son of a beech!!!! It just happened again!!!! TWICE!!!! TWICE!!!! BOTH of Finlands goals against Canada were during commercials!! thats 7 thats Ive seen WTF is wrong with NBC?!?!? I hope the US gets 6th or worse again so their ratings will suck more than they did already and maybe enough pissed off people calling will get the message across. How hard is it to cut back to the game once play starts!?!?!? This is fudging rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!
First Olympics I've watch in HD, that's enough reason for a thumbs up. Plus seeing some commercials for Omega (not worth 800 million to me though...) -Peter http://luxurybazaar.com/ [email protected] <[email protected]>
