I attended the Winter Park Concous this weekend. What a weak show. Compared to Cavallino Classic, Amelia Island, Celebration, etc., was a complete disappointment. Couple of ragged out 328'c, an oxidized Sera Blue Testarossa with ghetto rims, beat up Dino with spider cracks all over paint and a yellow 360. Completely weak effort.

Am suprised the promotoers don't invite the Ferrari Club of Florida to show, etc.

Maybe it will be better next year, but progressively gets weaker every year.

Andy you're the 3rd person I've heard this from. I was going to go up but my oldest was in a Veteran's Day parade so I skipped it. Glad I did. Hope all is well, how are you liking the M3?

To be fair, Winter Park isn't promoted as a 'Ferrari' show like Cavallino, or an 'Exotics' show like Celebration.

Yes, there was a limited showing of Ferraris, but the collection of Bentleys, Rolls', a couple of Deusenbergs, Packards, and Erwin Rommel's Maybach command car from the North Africa campaign made it worth the trip.

I too find it difficult to remember sometimes, but there are other cars out there than just Ferraris.

It Stunk. And it keeps getting worse and worse.

Perhaps if the organizers contacted the folks at Ferrari Club of Florida it might be better. I've seen better Concours events at the Ferrari Club events.

Honestly think the promoters will allow any car to enter the show. Just to fill up the roster.

The promoters should be embarassed at the cars they allowed in this show. So should the owners. What a joke!

This is not supposed to be a Cavallino or Amelia. Its a great local, maybe regional show. Its free to attend.

So what cars present that you think that should not have been there?

I'm curious as to your general age: Are you under 30 or over? Based on your comments, my guess is "under." Maybe all you saw were just a bunch (140+/-) old cars and not enough Enzos and 599s. If you want to see just newer exotics...go visit the dealers. Paul (Rosso328) and Tim Stanford could take issue with your comments about the 328s.

Only four or five Lambo's from what I heard too; we get that much at dupont cars and coffee in St. Pete third Saturday of each month.

Yes, I am very proud of my car, but I have no desire to get into an anonymous internet argument about it.

If the caliber of cars present was not up to modenachaser's standards, perhaps he can bring his car next year to help raise the bar a bit.

Thank God. Any more post 1980s Lambos and the Concours would actually be a disaster. I don't go to a concours to see late year exotics. I go to see a Miura, or a Morgan, or an old Bently, maybe a gullwing MB. Hopefully a nice 246 Dino, maybe a Daytona or a Lusso.

Why would I go to a concours to see a Gallardo? If its not a 400, or a Miura, and early Countach, its just an Audi anyway.

I think the point of WinterPark is missing to a few. Its not meant to be a supercar show like the one in West Palm that John Temerian promotes. Its not meant to be Cavallino or Amelia. If it were, you would be paying $40-$80 to get in.

It is an excellent regional judged concours that from the looks of the trailered vehicles going south Sunday night, is taken seriously by many collectors throughout Florida.

The WP show is a joke.

What I'd like to see: at least one F40; F50; Enzo. A 512bbi would be nice. These are collectibles. Maybe a new California. There is a Ferrari dealer in Central Florida/Orlando; so perhaps the organizers could work with them to make it interesting/intriguing. Heck, Porsche brought 2 new Panameras. Perhaps Ferrari Central Florida (and their affiliated Ferrari of Tampa Bay) could be brought in to improve the offerings.

I thought a Concours is to show off the best kept and/or restored cars, or at least an clean yet original example of a particular model. A couple of ragged out 328's, one "dime a dozen" 360, a beat up Testarossa. What a ragtag showing. The organizers should be embarrased. So should Winter Park.

Old people with no drive or creativity or sense of what people really want to see are running the show. Quality is always better than quantity. Thus, you have what was displayed on Sunday. Period.

FYI, I'm the President of a Reinsurance Brokerage firm, residing in Winter Park. I've been to multiple car shows. Grown up with Ferrari. Learned to drive a stickshift on a 308. Currently looking for a 89 328 or 95 348 Spider. Don't insult my background.

    Just my 2 cents.

I happened to like the Winter Park show. First of all it is in my back yard and it is one show that I don't have to get on a plane and transport cars from coast to coast. It is not a Ferrari show. It is a combination of many automobiles and some of the cars were magnificient. This show draws about 50,000 people and is a great event for the town of Winter Park. There was a lot of muscle cars, vintage cars and when you look at the vintage Jags,Morgans, Duesenburgs, Bentley and Rolls royces, a true automobile afficienado truely appreciates all of the cars for what they truly are.
It seems to me you are a Ferrari person only. There are a lot of other shows that are Ferrai only and that might be where you need to attend. My belief is, it is the cars that bring the people together but, it is the people that make the show. And for bringing the people together, Winter Park does an outstanding job.
By the way I learned to drive on a Ford tractor when I was ten years old. I will be 65 on thursday and will be on the track at Daytona this week-end. My two cents.

I have to agree with Mr Paterson. Also I believe a car show is about showing all cars, not just exotics. shows are about the development and advancements of car makers thru the years.

Who said anything about a Gallardo?

Either way, the monthly cars & coffee has more rare cars than it sounds like this event had.

In a sense the monthly cars and cafe has a lot more exotics but, for the most part they are the latest, newest and fastest in attendance. It is a good event and since they have a new venue it is even better. What I am trying to imply is, don't run down a car show just because it doesn't fit your idea of what a show should be. Each show is a little different and it should be. If they were all alike there would be no reason to attend more than once. Keep an open mind and appreciate the venue, the cars and the people. By the way you might want to bring you car to Daytona this weekend and put it on the track. If you are the ferrarista you say you are, lets see how you stack up as a driver against us old guys. Some of us old guys, incliding Derek Bell and Valentino Balboni [two guys who incidentally appreciate all automobiles] will be happy to impart some of their knowledge about car shows and events not to mention leaving you in the dust.

I didn't say 'exotics' any more than I said Gallardo's for the other reply. I said the duPont show has more rare cars; there are at least as many older >80's Ferrari's that show up as there are newer, there's often Countach and Diablo's that show up on the Lambo side, there are numerous cars that show up from the 30's through 60's that would not be called 'exotic', so on and so forth. The only reason I posted in the thread is because several of my friends were also disappointed with the concours, and if enough people are reporting that, then yes, there's an issue with either the show or the advertising which should better reflect what to expect.

I have no idea what you mean by 'ferrarista', I have two Lambo's and have not yet owned a Ferrari. Regarding leaving me in the dust at Daytona, when you can break a 1:53 on the Daytona road course, I'll give you a race, until then, you're slower than me on even my first ever visit to the track two weeks ago, but I'll include the results since I'm not a bench racer:

    http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1359298

Sorry I can't make it this weekend to be left in the dust, I'm going to be racing at Barber in Alabama with PBOC. I'll be racing Road Atlanta with NASA first weekend in December, Homestead with FARA later in the month and Sebring with PBOC in January if you'd like to have a race on one of those dates.

As an event promoter and someone who aspired to be in the marketing/automobile show business I think the negative remarks are simply rude.

I have attended hundreds of car shows, small, large, concours and charity and I produce one of the largest attended automobile events on the east coast.

These events are produced by individuals who simply love cars!! Cavallino, Amelia Island, Winter Park, FOS..etc etc. At the end of the day many automobile events aren't even for profit. They are produced so WE enthusiasts can enjoy them.

To criticize any organization that produces a car event makes no sense if you are a car lover.

Talking to Dan about the year the hurricanes hit while his car was up on the lift.

Hearing all about the 250 Cab with the Chrysler motor and the Ford back end, and the obvious fun it gives on the track.

Talking to Al and Betty about the rally next week sponsored by the Porsche club, but all European sports cars are welcome. (Thanks for bringing me the flyer. Hope to see you next week.)

Catching up with Doug and Matt and hearing about Doug's experience with the Florida ice, and keeping the car shiny side up when the SUV didn't make it.

Seeing the car that still holds the record for the Gumball Rally run in 1975 - spider cracked paint and all.

Seeing the smile on a 275 GTB owner's face as he told me how his million dollar car is still such a blast to drive.

Seeing Pete's TR6, and hearing the absolutely amazing stories behind the dashboard and the genuine Lucas fog lights.

Being stopped in my tracks by a completely unrestored 1924 Bentley. I am still talking about that one.

Driving in the tour behind a 190 SL and really noticing how flowing the lines of that car look from that angle.

Seeing the wide eyed kids and admiring adults as they stopped to admire my ragged out 328.

I guess I have a different definition of 'quality' than some others on this board.

    I'll be back next year.

One thing that I realized as I was last weekend in 2 events (the Porsche guys breakfast and the Lamborghini run to the keys, I had to leave B4 they left) ... is that today there's SO MUCH BLING it's insane.

Anything under 17" for wheels is tinny, the "MUST" is to have is $5K in wheels with lots of chrome or CF and -no less than 19"- ... lots of ULTRA colors, carbon, wings, chrome (YIKES but you see a lot of italian cars with chrome, which is an absurd) ... excessive amount of bling it is lately getting on my nerves I SWEAR, i love the old ferraris, the nice simple shapes, or any modern stock Ferraris / Lambos .. as well I LOVE modern ultra exotics, but people put so much stuff in their exotic cars is INSANE ....

Of course I absolutely love cars but i had this thoughts lately, maybe some people's perceptions are getting a bit confused in this era of TOTAL excess that makes seen a more "tame" or "subtle" display of cars look like a failure.
