So who does everyone here use for storage in the winter? What are the rates per month? I am planning on putting her in hibernation in the first week of November, and returned to me the first week of March. How I will pass those 4 months I do not know! ;-)

    Suggestions?

Currenty I know that Ferrari of Central NJ offers it for $349 a month. Including transport each way.

$400 bucks a month?? What do you offer to justify that?

I would bet a portion goes to the insurance policy on the cars that they store. If I didn't have the space I would pay 400 a month just to have my garage during the winter.

I'm paying $600/month on a local storage unit and I provide my own insurance.

It's crazy, but storage prices are much higher now then they were 5 years ago - something about people losing houses and storing their stuff in units.

It pains me to pay the monthly fee because I have too much crap in my garage to install the four post lift.

$600 per month is unbelievable!! I think that $400 is a rip-off, but $600 is robbery.

Why not rent a garage from a homeowner? I pay $150 for a nice, heated, 2 car garage from an older lady that does not drive.

Hey, if it does not bother you to pay those prices good for you, but I would look for an alternative.

Just my 2 cents of course.

If I knew of an alternative, I would gladly use it - I don't like overpaying. In my immediate area, there are 3 stroage places. All three had units available, I chose the one that was $15 more per month because it was 3 miles closer, and on the same side of the road (no U turn required). Had there been a significant difference, I would have chosen the cheaper method.

I never thought of renting from another homeowner - how would you find out? Craigslist?

If one of you guys were close to White Plains I'd rent one of the two spots in my garage for $600/mo and relegate the Jeep outside! Hell let's make it $400! Or better yet, take the one-car garage at the lake!

Start by checking Craigslist but it's tough to find one there.

Put the word out in your neighborhood for starters, and post some "Wanted" fliers out as well. Cruise around (in the Ferrari) and look for likely people/houses and stop and talk if you can...think old ladies/widowers. Finally, make up some fliers and put them in the mailboxes of houses that have potential.

If you make an effort, I garantee that you will find something. Offer $100 month for starters (that's what I'm paying!) $150 is about right, with $200 being high.

For a widower who does not use her garage anyway, an extra $150 bucks a month is found money.

Don't let people rip you off because of the little Horsey on your hood!
