Only took them a season to develop their turbo first time out. Mind you, they were on a budget. Their driver doubled as chief engineer back in the day! .
Also meant to note, Bernie's never, ever, been short of opinions - A lot of them just to get a rise out of the press or whatever, but he's certainly never been shy..... Cheers, Ian
Haha. Merc run a ton of laps without refueling as I understand it, well over a race distance. It doesn't much matter as they aren't pushing their engines past 70-80% and not revving beyond about 13k or thereabouts. Ferrari are revving just a touch higher from what Kravitz has been stating.
My understanding too. IIRC, Ted said about two races..... OK, the last 20% of performance takes the other 80% of the fuel as we know, but neither are they fully loading the ES as yet either. It may be tight, but as long as it doesn't turn into, as Bernie so eloquently notes, 'a Le Mans style economy run', ()they'll figure it out. Once again, F1 should be *difficult*..... Cheers, Ian
Could Williams be a serious contender this season, considering it has Merc engines and a motivated Massa?
Given the changes and Mercedes power seemingly, for now, reliable at the lower levels used in Jerez, why not! Its a bit more wide open this year than last it would appear.
I would love to see a championship being disputed by Massa, Hamilton, Kimi and Alonso, and MB vs Ferrari on the constructor's championship battle.
+1! It looks like Red Bull, partly thanks to Renault, is absolutely nowhere. It doesn't make me unhappy.
right.....the caffeinated drink packaging firm should go back to the supermarket shelves...where they belong.
Why the hate? Because they did a better job than everyone else over the last years? I'd love to see as many teams fight for the championship as possible. I wouldn't mind if RB failed because their drivers weren't up to the job. I wouldn't mind if they failed because the car they built was crap. I'd hate to see them fail because an external supplier whom they have no control over, namely Renault, didn't deliver as required.
I really don't get the Redbull hate either. For the past four years, they've kicked everyone else's ass. I give them a ton of credit for such an amazing run. Any hate is pure jealousy IMO. Mark
Please tell me that's a joke and you just forgot the smiley, right? If they somehow belong on supermarket shelves, I guess the others are all in the thrift store. Cheers, Ian
Jealousy, ignorance, stupidity, something along those lines. I'm still hoping it was meant as a joke..... Cheers, Ian
Great sound clip of the 2014 cars: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1_TrtqRLo8]F1 test día 3 jerez 2014 - YouTube[/ame] Definitely lost a few decibels.
For sure there will be a lot of resentment toward RB simply because they did such a great job over the past few years. It's wrong pure and simple. However, being a gracious winner (not rubbing it into the noses of your competitors when you win) is a great quality. And TBH there were times when some individuals at RB possibly failed on that count. For example recognising your opponent and their fans. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
The change to V8s from the 10s was a big enough step backwards. What we have now is yuck. I'm sorry, but IMO there's no way to dress up this pig. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
You know the saying? You can put lipstick on a pig, but at the end of the day it's still a pig I hate the sound even back when each outfit posted dyno clips...on track it hasn't sounded any better.
That´s not fair. Red Bull gets the wins and Renault the fails. Not fair at all. Red Bull is the "official" Renault team right now. That means that the engine is built to fit in that car; plus I bet they get the engines for free and even get paid by Infinity, a Renault subsidiary. In these past seasons, Renault engines were more suited to the blown diffusers, required less cooling and had better fuel consumption than others, making the Red Bull chassis work better, so they deserve more credit than other engine manufacturers for their customers´ wins. So if Red Bull and Renault won together, then they´ll loose together too.
Gotta say, even I'm a little disappointed so far! However, I'm not ready to write them off just yet. Remember, they're not revving close to the limit, they're all short shifting and even the turbos etc haven't been turned up yet. Someone posted a clip of, I think, Lewis coming in, and it sounded like a jet engine spooling down. Different, and certainly not the glorious V10's, but they'll improve and we'll adapt..... Hopefully! Let's give 'em a chance. Cheers, Ian
Agreed. Plus RB are in deep shinola notwithstanding the donk issues. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
I'm definitely for giving things a chance. Even on the performance side, as bitterly disappointed as I am now, I'm thinking I need to wait longer and just see what we get served up in Aust. But on the sound - put a fork in it, it's done. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
Not hate at all...they (RB Team) have accomplished a lot as a team...no doubt...just making fun of the product they help sell. On the other hand...this is (last I checked...) a "FERRARICHAT" isn't it? Am I jealous? Of course I am. Anyone whom considers himself a Ferrari fan should. I admire all teams in the F1 world, all Teams in the La Mans series...I admire Rallies....not so much Nascar...but I tolerate them.....I admire everything automotive...... I guess I am a traditionalist wishing /dreaming each F1 Team were backed by real car manufacturers, or engine manufacturers.....my only problem with the RB team is that I see them as a blatant marketing plot to sell more caffeinated drinks..(unacceptable to me...allow me...that), as opposed to a marketing plot to sell more cars, more engines, more trannies...or whatever as long as automotive. If you read my comment above, I made fun of the RB sponsors..the product ....not the RB Team. Making fun or ridiculing an Aluminium Can full of chemicals does not give you Mr. Ian the right to offend me or anyone else in this forum.
