    Hello all,

Hope you don't mind me cross-posting this question but I figured I'd ask my fellow 458 brethren...

So with fall fast approaching, I am looking to keep my 458 out of my apartment parking garage for the winter as I do not trust it being moved around for "convenience" while it is not being used, by the parking attendants. Does anyone know a facility that allows cars to be stored? I am thinking one of those "Storage Wars" type facilities but I am not sure they cater to cars, much less be a safe/climate-controlled facility where rodents won't chew up my wiring or leather upholstery to keep warm until spring.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! What do you all do to keep your cars safe during those non F-car winter months, assuming you don't keep your 458 in a heated garage attached to your house?

I know Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley NY will store your car for a fee of course in either heated or nonheated garage at their dealership.

Check your local dealers and I think there is some kind of storage firm called Collector Garage or something like that in your area.

If you live in NY, you have another 2 1/2 months to 3 months of driving before you would even think of storing it away for the winter. With all due respect I would think more of driving it then where are you going to store it at this point of the summer.;)

Your dealer is usually a good place to start looking... around early October. :)

i wouldn't store a nice car like a ferrari outdoors, even under a cover.

even the best cover will allow dirt to get inside when wind blows it up. i have had no less than 6 covers ranging from a $60 cheap generic to a $400 custom one.

besides a cover, the car needs to be on a tender, additive is needed for the gas, and tires should be over inflated. all part of winter storage.

best choice for apartment dwellers is an offsite parking indoor with an indoor cover on. in NY, you are probably better off looking into somewhere in NJ or Long Island. it's just too expensive to park in Manhattan for 4+ months, which could easily cost $2-3k. when i lived in jersey city, there were gated parking structures for 1/3 or 1/4 of the cost. easy to access your car in case you need to. if you have friends that live outside of manhattan, ask them to see if they can hook you up with a space for cheap.

With my cars it may be 4-6 months before I get back to it.

Put stabil in the gas. Modern gas starts going into varnish 3 months safter it leaves the refinery. I would put some gas lubricating fluid. You can buy it at any autoparts store.

I do not use it except in my old cars. Modern gas is much dryer than the 50's and 60's gas. I do not do it for my 458 but it does not hurt anything.

They did tell you to put oil in each cylinder by pulling the plug. My guess it is not needed with the new cars.

Due the obvious thing like check antifreeze temp levels.

I would also change the oil before I put it up. Car oil when driven develops potassim, magnesuim , nitrates plus a few other chemicals and acids that are not good for the engine. This is why all of my cars get the oil changes every year no matter how few miles it is driven.

I kind of feel the way to other poster does about storing a ferrari outside. They do make outside covers for cars. I would be more worried about theft or vandalism and stuff.

I park all of my cars in a rented storage area with security and electrical plugs so everything stays charged. I do not use them but my place has single storage bins that you lock and it is perfect for one car. It is about $107 a month. There is another place without security or electrical for $80 a month. So you might be able to find somerthing like that in your area. I like these because you have the key do no one will mess with your car.

    Good luck

    Lee
