Anyone here going? I'd be really interested to see some other OHOS (550's)on the track. Syd where are you??
They're all OHOS. Don't confuse quality with the price tag. F40... Biggest con going. Cheap, thin, tortionally impotent, steel tube amateurely mig welded frame, crudely covered with 95% canoe reject quality fibre glass with a surface dressing of Carbon Kevlar purely for show. Electricals that are no better than a childs toy.... And a pretty good engine. But that's the beauty of Ferrari.... Infinitely greater than the sum of their parts.... Go german, get the best of everything... and STILL, they lack personality. But yes, Winton saturday..... I'll be there, (With those pesky race cars) and I'll have a few bits and bobs for on site assistance/oil/air/brakes/advise etc etc
Yes, the Michelotto is going to be there Saturday. This will be the first time at Winton with the car sorted and some level of comfort with it on my part. It should be interesting to see what time it gets with fresh slicks.
Scott, you've never even owned a 360C... change your user name!! One of the highlights of my racing here was the 1.25.3 Allan pulled from only God knows where in a chilly Procar qualifying session in the 360C. Bowe has done a high 1.21 with ABS and F1 in #12 GT, but that was after extensive testing on the day and also after a V8 test on a really grippy hot track in perfect conditions. I think it'll be cold, so times will be a bit slow. Should still see well under 1.30, maybe a 1.27?? Piva will be there too, with his now ABS equipped #2014 ACEMCO car. And Tommy in his 360C speciale (you should ask Tommy for a drive of that)
Can't be bothered changing the user name. You are only partially correct in any case, as the N-GT was originally a used 360 Challenge car # 118533, so that's enough justification for the user name in my book Those times you quoted certainly are "mega". However I am not quite that talented (massive understatement) and would be happy with a sub 1.30 which should be achievable. It will be interesting to see how Romano goes; but I doubt ABS makes much difference as he (and I) don't get that close to the ultimate braking limits of these cars. I have only flat spotted the fronts once and that was into MG at Phillip Island which is where it's going to happen more than perhaps anywhere else. No way in the wide world Tommie is going to let me drive his car!!!!!
Correct, but it's like saying you drive a Lancia when you actually have an Integrale Evo.!! I disagree re ABS, of all the tracks, Winton and Mallala are perhaps the most ABS beneficial ones I've been to with regard to lap time gained. Having it would automatically bring your personal limits up to meet it. Some systems are not great (355C Teves average at best, 3 channel Bosch a bit better), but the 360 ABS system really is sensational. What's your history with Tommy then.....
So we can expect Romano to trounce me with the "user friendly" F1 ABS spec car then...... I personally don't think the cost/benefit ratio stacks up on the ABS. No history with Tommie other than a few good matches in the past between me in road cars and Tommie in his 360C........
Well, I'm not sure if he has the road car ABS ECU fitted or the 360C ABS ECU on a technical point...... Plus he has less downforce with the ACO body kit...... Plus the fact that, so far he has been several seconds off your times at the technically easier tracks, would suggest that you're probably going to be faster. But yes, he might surprise you under brakes. I also think he's still on the last dregs of Pirelli Slick stock, whereas your latest Dunlops are the softest suitable option out there....
Hooray!! Great day. Everyone had as many laps as they could get and no rules were imposed. No groupings, just open slather..... As for times... well Stephen's timer shows a 1.37.93 and Scott did a few 29.4. PP even wobbled round in the high 40's with his OHOS (allegedly).....
I didn't do any lapped times...but otherwise i'm sure my OHOS would have done a low 40! Colin Templer's timer showed a 1.37 too. Sadly, it doesn't count for much. Official time for SS was in the 38s. If I could work out how to use that stupid software, I'd post the times Yeah..perfect day, really.
Actually PP, I checked my lap timer against a new DL1 GPS data logger and the course timer at the Ford Fours day at Sandown today. The largest difference between all three was 0.1 secs, generally less than 0.05sec. My laptimer was 0.5 sec different to your times in the last timed session at Winton, I didn't check the rest, yet AHG's were all accurate with the lap timer I lent him. Are you sure Steven Rowe (sp?) didn't slip you a $50?? Fantastic day though. A BIG thanks to Hal for spending time showing me a much faster way around the track. An even bigger thanks to Danny Jonas and the other officials for one of the best track days I have ever had the pleasure of attending. I almost forgot, congrats to AHG for a new PB in the 430 smashing his old time and still on crappy tyres!!
And Stephen.... where was your pit wall transmitter... I saw only one on the finish line with mine.... and two or three at the dummy grid exit.... where was yours? As it may effect the lap time recorded. Hoosiers website (which I haven't even visited) seems full of crap (if you take what stephen says) regarding tyre pressures and breaking in procedure etc. The tyres are great, but their info has lawyer spin on it. Run them in the high 30's/low 40's and treat them like race slicks...... Nail the green lap within the first 5 minutes, then it's all down hill from there!
Hope you all got the pdf file with the times. I mucked up quite a few, but, with mike sharpe's help today, I think I've got the hang of it for Calder in september.
Betcha we both forget how to work it by then. Write it down! BTW, I have already thanked most people but thanks to Phil for bolting me into the NGT and keeping it going long enough for all those laps with Scott, what a thing it is
Oh...i forgot to say....first time i've been on the track with my mechanically perfect 355 since you finally did the cam covers properly. No sign of any leaks. hopefully you've learnt to do thing right the first time now and learnt that you do make mistakes. even i made one once.
HAHAHAHAHA beat me to it AHG do you ever go round the track Phil ? it must suck being stuck in the pits while these boys are out playing ?
