I have had an odd occurrence with my 355 since I bought it. After about an hour into a trip, the wipers will begin wiping intermittently. Nothing I do to the wiper stalk will make it stop. Someone on here suggested it could be the "wiper intermitter" and had one for sale, so I bought it. I've looked at the manual and not sure I can locate this part. Does anyone know where this is located and the best way to get at it? Thanks!

I don't know if this is applicable to Left Hand Drive cars, but on my '98 Right Hand Drive car, the intermittent wiper unit is attached to the right hand front luggage compartment latch. i.e. on the opposite side to the front luggage compartment latch which has the HVAC unit attached. The HVAC Unit has "Modulo ECU written on the label (so not this one). The windscreen wiper unit sits kind of under the (Bosch) brake hydraulic fluid reservoir on my car (I'll be changing my reservoir soon, because it's weeping.... and I'm starting to do the same thing.... I haven't even driven this car 100 miles in the first 6 months of ownership.... and it's been more trouble than a proverbial Lotus :)

Looks like the luggage compartment liner has to be removed for better access. The non-captive screws on the liner join can be a bit of a pain: A small (8mm?) ratcheting ring spanner and #1 philips right angle screwdriver required... plus a magnet for fishing out nuts and washers. The rest seems to be regular nuts, screws and bolts.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!
    Cheers
    Ian

To remove my liner it's a matter of removing the 3 metal retainer bars each of which has 3 tapping screws holding it in situ....and the rubber boot seal ...and 4 more self tapping screws near the fuse holder lid and battery cutoff switch lid...
Don't know why you need ring spanners, right angled screwdrivers and a magnet??

Interesting. On my car the screws which look like self tappers are actually philip head "mushroom" bolts with non-captive self locking nuts on the back. I could have replaced them with self tappers, I suppose (although I would have problems getting a screwdriver on some of them). The bolts looked original, however, so I kept them that way.

Ricambi have a diagram which show the wiper unit attached to the left hand front trunk latch. The wiper unit is item 13.

    Strange

My liner only has philip screws which tap into nylon blocks.
The whole liner comes out as one piece.
The 2 side pieces are attached to the rear piece with allen headed screws...i've never taken these off.

Also....the screws used to secure your battery wheel liner boars look strange...i've only seen philips headed screws here...yours look like allen headed screws....

lol.... Now I see why I have had so much trouble removing my liner... Not only has someone used self locking nuts to join the pieces of the upper liner together... some idiot has Araldited the front part of the liner to the trunk, making it impossible to remove as one piece.

Anyway, I lifted the liner enough to access the area around the bonnet latch. On my car, to access the wiper intermittency module, I had to:
    1) drain the brake fluid reservoirs (note that the reservoir on the Bosch system has two separate compartments). I had to both siphon the fluid out of one part and drain the other by disconnecting the hoses. Hopefully, this part is not required on left hand drive cars.
    2) I undid the two nuts holding the reservoir mounting plate to the latch assembly.
    3) beneath the reservoir mounting plate, is the plate which the wiper intermittency module is attached to.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers

P.S. Just a thought... It may be possible to slide the Windscreen Wiper Intermittency Unit mounting plate from under the brake reservoir mounting plate (without draining the reservoir or removing the hoses). Just undo the two nuts. I only had to remove the reservoir because it was leaking.

Correction: The reservoir is also for the clutch. The compartments seem sealed (and if you drain one, the other still retains fluid), but topping up for both systems is done at the one point.

Thanks for all the tips. I was able to do the job without draining the reservoir. It's a tight spot to work in. My magnetic retrieved tool came in handy a couple of time for dropped nuts and washers. I had to loosen the trunk carpeting and the foam trunk liner to give maximum room. I'll find out if it was all worth it on my next long drive. Thanks again guys!
