Mine is on the high speed setting when turned counterclockwise, and on the low speed setting when turned clockwise. This seems both counterintuitive and contrary to what the owner’s manual illustrates. Are they all like this, or has mine been monkeyed with somehow?

I'd have to check the stalk rotation direction on mine, but as for wiper speeds, my car has two: Slow and VERY Slow!

On my 1988 3.2: Fully up is off, first position down is intermittent, if you turn it clockwise or counterclockwise. it doesn't seem to matter, they still sweep the windshield every 4 seconds. second position down and clockwise is slow speed, counterclockwise is higher speed.

Also, be aware that it's very common for the solder joints on these stalks to break on both the headlight stalk and the wiper stalk, several threads on here on how to repair, it's easy to do, as long as you don't lose the little ball or spring when you pull the end of the stalk off. Check the DIY section, I posted a while back about how to repair the wiper stalk. (DIY thread post #58)

Thanks! I guess I won’t be modifying mine to make it behave as illustrated in the manual, then!

Any idea where to source the ball and spring?

Mine were missing when I got the car, so it’s slow wipers only for me. No part numbers or sizes listed, and I haven’t wanted to take the lighting ones out to measure in case I buggers up the lights.

There is a spring and ball size replacement thread on here somewhere.
I think I remember them coming up with something like a ballpoint pen spring and a BB.
