I thought I was really smart when I lubricated my hubs with Lithium Grease. Now I find years later that pulling a wheel is a trouble some job, and the hubs have some surface rust. What is proper procedure for keeping these puppies easy to remove? Clean and dry with no lubrication at all?

The splined hubs need lubrication or you wont be able to get the wheel off- Thats what the Ferrari dealer told me and I dident want to find out for myself. I have always used regular wheelbearing grease with no problem.

Lithium based spray is the hot ticket for motorcycle chains, but that ia a different kind of load

Antiseize paste is your friend here. It provides a viscious lubricating surface, does not harden or bind and protects against corrosion.

I agree, hopefully more viscous than vicious

I don't think grease is a good idea at all. Mine has turned very thick and sticky. And the rear wheels were so stuck I had to get a 3' crow bar behind the wheel to wiggle it free. Flat on the road and you would be screwed.

    Agree.

    I used it when I had the 330 2+2.

It's a gooey gray paste that you put on with a brush attached to the container cap.

I wonder if you could use plumbers pipe thread goop.

I think that dries and hardens.

Black moly wheel bearing grease on hub splines, wheel splines, knock-off threads, inside of knock-offs. Seal areas inside hubs at spoke holes with clear silicone sealant (this keeps grease from spraying out on wheels and water from entering hubs. Torque knock-offs to 260ft/lb. Don't clean the wheels regularly with caustic cleaners. Remove the wheels once a year, good time to flush/bleed brakes.

Do this and you will never have any wheel removal problems. I strongly advise against using anti-seize, as it doesn't have the same lubricating/anti-corrosion properties as good old black moly grease.

Copper ease is the best stuff, its what we have been using in the UK with our poor weather since the dark ages, a tin like this will last you a lifetime, it just needs a stir every year, the art is just to put a thin layer on, other wise it may leak out and cover your wheels, it can also be used on wheel bolts etc.

I plan on removing the 50 years of duct tape build up around my wire wheels at the inside. I'm thinking of wrapping old inner tube around there to protect the new tube from the spokes. Is there a better simpler solution?

I'm also thinking about a cinnamon cream cheese bagel and double latte for breakfast. What do you suggest?
