First of all, (omitted due to decorum). Second of all, nobody including you has disproven my claim that some 246s may have come with wires. Third, I don't know either but I want to know and I am just giving my opinions and observations after all that what this forum is all about. Next, yeah I do like wires on a 246. Last and most important and don't forget it, revisit sentence number 2. ;)

Sentence 1 - WHATEVER. Sentence 2 - WHATEVER (Your burden, not mine. While you're at it, prove to me that Minilites were not factory options on F40s). Sentence 3 - WHATEVER. Sentence 4 - WHATEVER. Sentence 5 - WHATEVER revisited.

But my oh my, I sure do think that American Racing mags would sure 'nuff be lookin' good on a Boxer. And, you could get them in a size other than that Michelin TRX stuff. Gold plated would look even nicer. Maybe you could get spinners for those puppies.

You're not insulting my car...but maybe other people will forgive you.

Someday I'd like to be so unworried about anything that matters, that I have the luxury of a protracted online argument about whether Dinos came from the factory with wire wheels.

When I started this thread I had no idea what controversy would ensue.

They're just wheels after all. Who really cares what someone else does with their car?

Hey! While I'm here, how does anyone feel about adding some downforce? LOL

Isn't that a factory option on the new 599? :)

I know I was part of this pi$$ing contest that dinogts started but I am not that anal about this... This guy wants to study serial numbers and split hairs about dealer vs. factory options... I don't really care - I mean I may be a little curious only because I'm sitting at home sick with the flu... Anyway, to me the wires were put on by the dealer so that seems pretty original. I can hear it now: but they never came that way from the factory.......to which they have zero proof but w/e. Look, if I had a 246 would I put wires on it? Probably not to be honest. That said, I think 410SA's car looks great. Its nice to see one that is a little different. Even if I didn't like the way 410SA's car looked, I may express that opinion but I certainly wouldn't be so insulting about it. Nice car Alex! ;)

I'm flattered and amused that my car, that to the best of my understanding has not been viewed in the metal by anyone arguing about it here, has garnered so much attention.
As to the 'correctness" of the wheels in a concours situation, I understand that the Borranis are a points deduction, which is why I have a set of original Campagnolos as supplied by Ferrari on C&F cars, exactly for such a purpose.
Aesthetically however I must take issue with the young Spaniard who claims that wires on a Dino look like ***. They look like Borranis, not ***.
*** is brown and in various states of viscosity depending on its origin.
Borranis on the other hand have a lovely consistent appearance, no matter where you see them mounted :)

I seem to recall from somewhere that very early series 1 cars had wire wheels!!

I now have my Flak jacket on !!

The Spaniard is alas not so young, but thank you anyway...

    Enjoy your Dino! :)

    Cheers,

    Julio

P.S. I am going to check if I can get Borranis for my wife's Audi.

Just got some info that may prove helpful.

Fiat Dinos of this era did ship with wire wheels. Borranis to be exact. Fitment of similar wheels to a 246GT Dino would therefore probably be no problem, using those knock offs, which may have been different in appearance than the knock offs used on the 206 and early 246GT cars.

My friend, who sold Ferraris for Algar during the period, is certain that wire wheels were not a factory option on the European Ferrari Dinos, and certainly were never offered on the US cars as a factory option, and that Algar never retrofitted any cars prior to sale in the US with wire wheels.

I hope this sheds a little light.

Like late 400 SAs and the smaller 330 GTC, styling was clean and conservative, with the same sort of low, rounded nose bearing an elliptical, eggcrate grille. Flanking the latter were slim half-bumpers that undoubtedly looked better than they protected. Headlamps again nestled in nacelles. European models covered these with clear plastic contoured to fender shape, precluded on American models by government regulations. An airy greenhouse with slim roof pillars afforded fine outward vision. Per Ferrari practice, Borrari wire wheels were optional, Cromodora alloys standard.

I saw that too. They misspelled Borrani so I wasn't sure how reliable the info was so I didn't go with it.

Just curious, I think Borrani's on most 60s Ferraris are 15" but Dinos had 14" wheels so even if you could get them from Borrani, they wouldn't be the typically Borranis Ferrari had been using in the production of it's big ticket cars. True?
