I have a wireless router so I can use my laptop around the house. The router feeds 1 computer using an ethernet cable. I have been told I can set it up to where I can hit print on my laptop and it will print on the printer hooked up to the computer that is wired to the router. Everything is using Win XP. Do any of you know what I need to set to do this? Thanks for any help.
same thing as normal ethernet. Share the priter on the server, and select it as default on the laptop.
Ok, thanks. It was set up right. I have been clicking on the wrong printer icon whenever I tried to print.
Another option is to get a Printer Server. It plugs into the router and your printer plugs into the server. This allows you to print from your laptop (or any wireless PC) without having your main PC turned on. All PCs use the printer as a network printer then, rather than a local printer. They come with serial connection or USB connection. One model has both. $30-$60. Very handy.
I will look into the printer router. I didn't know about those. I usually leave that computer on all the time but am thinking it may not be good for it. Thanks
