Hello Guys, I currently have both a labtop and Desktop. I want to connect them both to the internet but have them in different rooms of the house wireless. How do I go about that? I have a wireless card for the laptop. I assume they sell the samething for the desktop. What else do I need? Thanks, -g
They sell either a board or a USB antenna for the desk top. Beyond that you will need a Wireless Broadband Router. Your high speed connection will come into the house and wire into the router. THey say that different makes are compatible but I have found the best success sticking with the same manufacturere [LinkSYS or D-Link, etc.]. At the moment I am using a D-Link sytem and get god results throught my house. I do have a couple of D-Link repeaters to get the signal everywhere but I have most of the house [about 6000 ft sq. covered]. Good luck
Thanks for the help. I'll look for the USB Antenna and the Router. I'll post again when its time to connect.
I have exactly the setup you are describing, one laptop and one PC connected wireless. In theory the USB could slow down your transmission speed on the PC, I bought a Linksys PCI card for the PC and it works very well. Also cheap at about $30. The wireless router is also only about $70. Linksys customer assistance was also very good in helping with problems. A cordless phone I had (also 2.4 GHz), was the cause of some problems that has since been sorted.
Don't forget if the router is close to the desktop, its easier to hard wire the desktop to the router, and that makes it speedier too.
