Who here has an 802.11n network? I've been thinking about getting a D-link, but I keep finding mixed reviews. Problem is I see mixed reviews for everything out there. I have a Belkin G network now and I f'n hate it. It cuts in and out as it pleases. I've had Belkin replace all the components a few times and still the same problems. I wanna move to another brand. Not looking to spend $300 on a network either.

Having been through Linksys and D-Link (and having boxes full of burned our wireless routers), I went with Netgear. It's generally considered the best, but it is pricey. Buy it on ebay (or buy.com or some other site) and buy insurance and you're covered. The Netgear took a while to set up, but the network is reasonably stable and has lasted at least as long as the D-Link so far.

I agree - you are going to get mixed reviews on this stuff just like you do cars....

I have had Linksys Wireless Routers ever since they came out, and have had NO problems with them.
My good friend, on the other hand, has had terrible luck with the same things I have...

Difference may be I am running aftermarket firmware, but still have had no problems at all.
    Close to 7 years now.

    Hi,

If you want the best - Look at the various Apple base stations. [Yes, they include S/W for PC's]

    1. Extreme @ $99: Enjoy your iTunes music library in virtually any room of your house. Share a USB printer without cables.

    2. Extreme + Gigabit ethernet @ $179: More "powerful" and includes GB ethernet which you probably don't need?)

    3. Either the 500GB or 1TB "Timecapsule" - Gives you "Network attached storage" ("NAS") as well as all the other stuff you need ($299 & $499 respectively). [You do backup your PC regularly don't you....... This sucker makes it *real* easy.....]

All of these are 802.11n, but will fall back as required.

Like all of Apples stuff "They just flat out work."

    Good luck,

    Cheers,
    Ian

hmmm, the Airport Extreme sounds like an option. Almost bought the Netgear router today, but if I can find an Extreme for the same price...

D-link was terrible, netgear was not great. My laptop would always get the signal from the router but the router would disconnect from the cable modem for no reason 2 to 3 times a week, which would require a reset.
He have had a 2Wire set up with the DSL set up and it has been perfect since the beginning. I can take my laptop out to the garage apt and use it there which was not possible before.

Installed an N range boosted router in my parent's house and I am completely satisfied with it. The house is about 4500 to 5000 squarefeet and the router is near the fusebox in the basement. I can get excellent internet signal at the other end of the house in their bedroom upstairs.

Super satisfied with it, and I haven't got the signal cut off once yet. I will probably buy something similar for my house.

Also, it doesn't get any more straightforward to set it up. I had everything up and running as well as all the security settings done in 7 minutes!
