Wireless Router Help Needed.

    I have a Western Digital N750 for my home Charter Internet. We have a two story home, approximately 4100 sq ft. The router is on the first floor located exactly in the middle of the house, two feet from the formal living room that is open to the second floor. We have very spotty internet connection on the second floor and nonexistent internet in the master bedroom sitting room which is about 30 feet or so from the router. Is there a better wireless cable router for me to use or is there a way to boost the signal. None of the Direct TV Boxes or TV's can hold a connection to this thing.

    There are many ways of doing this but the very simplest way that works perfectly, and is very easy to set up, is to use an Apple Airport Extreme plus either one or two Apple Airport Express. You don't boost your signal, instead you use multiple routers.

    The best way of doing it is to use cable between the routers (roaming network) but you can do it wirelessly (extended wireless network)

    Can you move the wireless router upstairs? Most residential installs fair better when the wireless access point is installed above the main floor. This is usually due to the load bearing construction of the main floor as well as the fact that the main floor is usually where the most interference causing devices can be found. Such as the kitchen with its microwave, refrigerator, dish washer. washer and dryer, induction cooktop,etc.

    Go to the admin page of the router interface and see if logging is enabled. If it is view the logs for some clues as to what is going on. If not enable logging and see what it reports.
    If you have not already done so check for a firmware update. You should be on version 1.04.16 (12/20/2012). There is also a network diagnostics tool available on Western Digital's site which may or may not help - I've never used it and know nothing about the usefulness of it.

    I picked up a Apple AirExtreme today at BEST BUY, problem. It was the crappy router

    Old thread but I personally hate using routers that "extend" your internet connection (there's a technical limitation which is unacceptable to me).

    Since I don't have ethernet in every room, I use another setup that works well (also has limitations which we'll ignore for now). I have a Moca bridge on each floor and a wireless router connected to it - this gives me the best coverage throughout the house and garage
