So I did it. After complaining about my 2011 GT3RS being too raw, being slightly bored with the 2012 AMG SLS I decided to jump into something raw but slightly civilized and went for a 1997 Ferrari F355 Spider 6-Speed. The car currently has pretty low miles, 10,300... but luckily I only live 4 blocks from work and don't do too much driving around Miami.

So far I had to replace the LH fan fuse after noticing the car was running above 190 degrees in traffic...

Recharged the AC... I have read great reviews about the 355 AC on the forum but currently the AC does not feel 100%...

Car has the mild Tubi but really think I am going to fiddle with the valve on the back of the exhaust... Any ideas on how to make it stay open?

Thinking about upgrading the speakers... and who knows what else!

    WISH ME LUCK!

    Very nice color combination!

    1. Not really good for the motor to do short trips, so hopefully you will walk/ride a bike/use another car to get to work
2 Get a front windshield reflector if you are parking the car out in the FLA sun a lot- I would hate to see that beautiful dash leather get messed up!
3 Not sure a good idea to open the exhaust valve full time- are you running stock exhaust? I upgraded to a great condition used tubi and new hyper flow cats (the OEM cats were shot anyway) and am very happy with the sound
4 At least for me, the motor is the music- see if you really want to put in the aftermarket stuff before you go cutting away larger speaker holes etc... most people prefer an OEM stereo set up, but it is your car- I love the interor color and would hate to see it marred by an audio shop :)

    Congrats on the acquisition!!!

    1. Valid point!
    2. It will never sit outside!
    3. It has a mild Tubi but so quiet when the valve closes...
    4. DO NOT WORRY! Only speakers that fit the original equipment and holes. I would NEVER butcher this car.

    Thanks!! Very excited.

Don't fudge with the bypass valve.... not recommended.

Drive it daily and you will be rewarded for it. The car gets better and better with more use.

Very nice. Congratulations on the purchase. Interesting that you find this car raw. To me, it is too civilized. ;)

Not only that you'll find it miserable for 4 blocks. Every manual Ferrari I've driven requires a good 15 minutes to warm up. Before that it's cranky and stiff. After that it's pure nirvana!

Just to elaborate on the bypass issue; it is suspected that wiring the valve open can cause a larger percentage of the exhaust to bypass the main cats and 02s skewing the data determining how rich/lean the fuel air ratio is. Leading to a potential lean or rich condition and all the problems like ping, cylinder washing etc. that come with that. I agree on the tubi being too tame, my car came with one and I did the fabspeed header, hyperflow exhaust, Capristo 3 combo and now is sounds EXACTLY like I wanted.

I don't leave the house with the 355 unless I'm going far enough to heat cycle it. Those short trips are no bueno in the long run in my opinion.

Congrats on the purchase. That's the first I've seen that colour combo. Looks great. :)

Very simple solution to the warm up. Set your alarm a half hour earlier and take the long way to work. Can't think of better way to start the day. Like others have said, great color combo. Best of luck.

Great condition and colors. I've been putting 400 miles a week on mine since I got it! I figure once it gets over 100ºF in the day I can't bring it to work as easily, so I'm getting in as much as I can now.

You can wire the bypass open (mine is), but you risk CELs.

The A/C can blow cold, but it's the dash fans that are not impressive. Their max setting is about a "2" on an Audi or MB dial.

Ah... Need to do something with the dash fans...

Thank you everyone for the kind words!!

I have already found myself taking the long way to work... hahahhaha

Out of every car I have owned or driven daily around Miami... F430, SLS, GT3RS, 458 Spider... etc The 355 may be one of the most fulfilling sensory experiences outside of a Diablo, Carrera GT or F50 which is NOT daily driver quality.

First, Congrats on your new car. I have had mine for 13 years and it never gets old.

Second, regarding your LH fan fuse. I suggest replacing the fan. The fuse likely blew because the amperage draw of your failing fan. I replaced mine a coupe of years ago. Got the fan from The Fan Man, IIRC. Took 20 minutes to install.

Lastly, you can actually melt your fuse box if you leave the old fan and keep blowing fuses.

Some will chime in and say this is nonsense. Trust me it's not.

    Congrats lovely car!

Ive been daily driving mine too for the last 2 weeks since I sold my DD. Your short commute isn't enough for it to warm up so drive the long way.

From my research on here, keeping the bypass valve wired open can lead to way more than CELs.

I think we should have a contest to see who can put the most miles/year on their 355. I've put on 2000 miles in about the last 3 months.
